SE&NSCR №s 15 - 22

South Etorea & North Sea Coast Railway №s 15 - 22 were a "class" of eight locomotives built by Beyer, Peacock in Gorton, Manchester in 1877. The locomotives were the same design as SE&NSCR №s 4 - 9 which had arrived nearly a decade prior. Unlike the other twelve locomotives, №s 21 & 22 were initially ordered by the Nederlands-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij but the order was cancelled only to be placed again three years later.
Like their older sisters, they were built to a standard Beyer, Peacock 0-4-2 design with them later receiving the same modifications as №s 4 - 9 due to the rough conditions of Etorea's south coast. Like the other 0-4-2s they were mixed traffic purpouse allowing them to perform all duties for the SE&NSCR, until 1888 when a dedicated fleet of 2-4-0s passenger locomotives arrived to run the passenger services operated by the SE&NSCR. They were often seen working coal trains from the Clyde Mill Colliery that was owned at the time by the SE&NSCR until 0-6-0s took over the role in the 1890s. All members of the class survived into Etorean National Railways ownership still working their original line until they migrated to the north west and the midlands in the early 20s. Due to their similarities, № 4 - 9 and № 15 - 22 were all numbered in the same sequence becoming №s 43002 - 43015.
By 1926 they were showing their age, and withdrawals began with №43013 being sold to D. A. Frye, Lowton. over the next two years four more were withdrawn, №s 43024 and 43009 went to the Railway Operating Division, № 43010 was broken up for spare parts and №43007 was sold to a private buyer. The last pre - war withdrawal came in 1938 when №43008 derailed at Tarnmouth Quay and was scrapped in early 1940 at Hoyt's Scrapyard.
The remaining locomotives were withdrawn and scrapped between 1957 and 1969, the last being № 43011 (№ 18) which was cannibalised for spare parts to restore №5 which now runs on the Ayles Valley Railway.
