NMR C14 Class

The North Midland Railway C14 class were a class of twenty-nine 0-6-0Ts designed for passenger use between Grunham and Telston. All of them passed into the hands of the Great Northern & Southern Railway in 1902 being renumbered to 1342 - 1370. Most of the class was built at the Aclesdon Locomotive Works of the NMR, five however were built at the smaller Calsley Locomotive Works. These were the so called "bad batch" as they were found to be rougher riders than those built at Aclesdon. This caused the Calsley Locomotive Works to become the new carriage and wagon works for the NMR.   In GN&SR days, they were displaced on passenger services between Grunham and Telston with them being relegated to various station pilot, shunting and branchline uses. They were often found working stone trains over the Alder's Heath branchline where the stone would then be taken up the mainline after being collected at the junction station at Monkton.

Withdrawals continued in the 40s with two (ENR №s 41350 & 41343) being sold to the Eyreshire Canal and Docks Improvement Committee with a third (41352) following in to serve as a source of spare parts for the engines. Four other locomotives were also sold by the ENR into other use with two going to use at collieries, one at a paper mill and the fourth being sold to Boyce & Beck Railway Contractors.
