GN&SR Diag. T7

The Great Northern & Southern Railway Diagram T7 was a group of 67 third class passenger coaches rebuilt by the GN&SR from the 1860s era Diagram F3 first class coaches between 1883 and 1886.

The coaches were built, or rather rebuilt, from Diagram F3s between 1883 and 1886 due to a shortage of third class passenger coaches; this was done by removing the original seats and replacing them with smaller ones, raising the capacity from six per compartment to ten per compartment - a total of fourty passengers per coach. They were used on whatever service needed them, mainly on the mainline and commuter trains though they would be replaced quite soon after they were built as orders for new coaches arrived from outside contractors aswell as the various carriage and wagon works of the GN&SR. Though they were only intended to be a stop-gap, they still had a reletively long service life as their use continued on branchlines until the early 1920s; several were sold off to other companies as the T7s were gradually phased out of service.

All mainline examples were withdrawn by 1922, the last surviving ones continued on the Valentine Colliery Railway until 1926 and the Nettleworth & District Light Railway. One coach (GN&SR №424) is preserved at the () Railway as their №13 having been sold to the N&DLR as their №6, later being used as a garden shed in Stocksbury.
