The Dark Miracle

The Dark Miracle was created by The Lich King as part of his Lich transformation and usurpation of the kingdom of Angmar.

as a result of the ritual the wizard Kazimyr died and has risen as an undead entity. however, due to the unusual nature of his specially crafted ritual, the entire kingdom has undergone several far-reaching changes.

  • The Partition- Kazimyr harnessed the protective barrier from the flying city, located east of the continent, to envelope the entire continent of Arthena in a shroud of air and sea currents. this served to prevent travel from the outside world by both physical and magical means. teleportation, magical communication or scrying is severely obstructed and might be achieved by extremely powerful magic. instant teleportation within the kingdom is impossible and fast travel is possible only through physical representations of metaphysical concepts called 'Warrens'.
  • The Night Shroud- The entire kingdom of Angmar is veiled from the sky. the veil serves to block out the influence of the Good-aligned Deities. in addition, the Veil changes the weather to permanently dreary and bleak (but not quite eternal night). the Veil negates any daylight penalties when normally applicable (Vampires can walk around in daylight). it is important to note that the Veil does not extend to areas outside of the Kingdom (such as the eastern desert) or above a certain height (such as the top of the white mountain or several peaks in the spine of the world mountains).
  • The Binding of the Kingdom- the entire kingdom was magically bound to the will of the Lich King. in addition, several powerful entities such as Lord Eremort were magically bound to his will, and thus unable to openly oppose or defy him.
  • The Drought- agriculture and animal husbandry was severely hampered. as a result, the mortal population was greatly diminished. most people barley get by, and food scarcity is all around. there are however ancient druidic circles disseminated throughout the land boosting the agriculture around them, thus allowing for bigger communities to survive. spells that provide healing or food are usually provided by less than benevolent entities and therefore are prone to unpredictable side effects if they work at all.

Popular Reception

Most of the population is ignorant to what exactly happened in the events of the great usurpation, nor do they know about most effects of the dark miracle. what is widely known is that there is a barrier keeping the people from the interference by the "Meddlesome Gods'.

They often point out that there has been no war since the inception of the Dark Miracle, and that wars used to be a part of life in the old days.
