Chancellor Theodore Roosevelt loses the faith of the general public and the royal court for his demands to join the Great War, costing him the election of 1918. Charles Evans Hughes, and isolationist from the Unionist Party, eventually wins the Selection of Chancellor. Roosevelt would go on to continue to advocate for intervention in the war.
