Transylvania
Transylvania was a country in Europe bordering Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Ukraine.
Culture
Transylvania is mostly of Romanian culture, which consists of approximately 70% of the nation. Hungarian is the second largest, consisting of 20%, however these areas are greatly concentrated in the central portion of the country.
History
The Kingdom of Transylvania was once a part of the Austrian Empire, administered as a part of Hungary through the Lands of the Crown of Saint Stephen. When the Great War began in 1915, Transylvania fought alongside the rest of the Austro-Hungarian Empire against the German Empire.
With the defeat of Austria-Hungary, the Empire was reformed into the Habsburg Confederation, where it was administered as the states of Transylvania and Szeklerland. The Confederation would eventually collapse in 1930, and the states were free to choose their fates. Hungary and Romania both claimed the regions, and so as to avoid a war, the area was deemed independent.
Though Transylvania was officially established as a kingdom, they had no selection of monarch by the time of their independence. Both Hungary and Romania desired a relative to take the throne, but the regency council established did not care for either a Habsburg or a Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen to ascend as choosing either would place them at odds with the other. As such, the council ruled in a monarch's stead.
Disbandment
In 1944, following the condemned Italian invasion and annexation of Albania, Transylvania was partitioned in a two stated solution between Hungary and ROmania. This was done in exchange for their neutrality in the coming World War as well as the disslution of the Balkan League.
