Grover Cleveland

Grover Cleveland was an American politician who served as the twenty-first Chancellor of America from 1894 to 1898. Cleveland was the first chancellor in a long line of succession from the Unionist Party. Despite the party affiliation, he opposed the annexation of Hawaii following the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. Instead, he demanded the return of American warships and marines back to the nation, but King Henry II neglected to give the command. Queen Lili'uokalani of Hawaii also refused to grant amnesty to those who overthrew her should she be reinstated Because of this, the American military maintained a presence on the islands, and Cleveland lost nomination for chancellor.
