Vorpal Blades

A vorpal blade is one specially enchanted to take the head of a target on a critical hit. In Keradrin, there are only seven vorpal blades in existence, each one named for one of the legendary Seven Deadly Sins: Vainglory, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Wrath, and Envy.

It's widely believed that the gods themselves had a hand in their forging, for it is impossible to forge another vorpal blade while all Seven remain intact. It is also believed that if one of the Seven is destroyed, that the next vorpal blade forged will take on the name and properties of the one destroyed.

The provenance of most of the Seven is presently a mystery. Rumors abound that one is in the possession of the ancient blue dragon known as The Old Man of the Sands; most likely, it is Greed or Sloth.

Vainglory

Vainglory is a longsword, whose long edges are so sharp and dark that they look almost as if they were made of obsidian rather than steel. There is an enscription down the center of the blade, written in Common but using Elvish characters, which reads "Beware Vainglory, the first of the Seven, which will cut even the proudest down to size."

It was discovered by a party of adventurers in the hoard of The Flames. It was carried for some time by Iarwenys, until she acquired the sentient moonblade Vanguardian. It is now carried by Myantha Kineth-Sangrey.

Lust
Greed
Gluttony

Gluttony was carried for a long time by the archfey Garthonel, who used it in the utter destruction of Clan Pathwind during the first round of the elven clan wars. When Garthonel was destroyed by a party of adventurers, the sword was taken by them and turned over to the blood hunter order in Kalawesi-Nerridera for safekeeping.

Sloth
Wrath

While the inscription on Vainglory refers to it as the first of the Seven, it is probable that Wrath has been in existence even longer. For the vast majority of its existence, it has been in the possession of Morgan Le Fay, who might have even used it in an ancient war that nearly destroyed the Feywild itself. Morgan sometimes gifts the blade to others, most recently to Kyelendar Piara, who used it to terrifying effect in his wars against the other elven clans of the Forest of Arduvei. When Kyelendar was defeated, Morgan appeared and reclaimed the blade.
