The Void & Voidlands

The scientists call it a malfunction. A temporary effect of the dying gates. They tell us to steer clear of the areas as they move, since they have yet to be able to predict the corruption that it causes, or how to fix it.   Others think this is something beyond the science. They claim that the gates have souls, and when the gates die they create this darkness. The more gates that die, the greater this force of broken technological souls.   Whatever it is, it's growing. Fast...we may not be able to stop it.

  While the official designation of this phenomenon is "Gate Erosion Particulates", most simply choose to call it The Void. The void is a both stationary and mobile. In the strange spatial realm that Keltrex occupies there are some areas of Void that seem to remain consistent and immobile (known as Voidlands), meanwhile some of the Void then breaks off and moves like an aspect of nature that leads to the phenomenon known as Void Storms.   It is visually consistent only in a general darkness and something akin to static, as if it is made up of many miniscule particles. At least from the outside. Once within the layers of the void that are deemed safe enough for Outriders to travel in things change. There is never a consistent appearance or space. Reports indicate that things become less coherent and safe the further individuals travel within it. And those who do not have the genetic dispositions and cybernetics that Outriders possess, or anyone that just travels too deep, find themselves prone to the machinations of the void changing them into Lineages AKA Voids from whatever they may have been before entering. Or worse...   Void storms while still an issue are less so in the modern age than previous. The majority of towers are equipped to withstand the average void storm with their added layers of security and reinforcements. However, those stuck on Ground Zero or outside on the transportation skyways are far less fortunate. These storms cause not only interference with networks and malfunctions in tech but can cause heavy structural damage as well as rewrite the genetics of individuals stuck within it if they do not simply go missing.
