Ruins of Mirik-Grove's Great Temple to Chauntea
This once great temple to the goddess Chauntea has long fallen into ruin. Now it has been taken over by the overgrowth of Carcaraxass' Swamp and serves as a marketplace or public hub for the denizens therein. In the courtyard of the temple you may find some ramshackle stalls selling various goods made and gathered by lizardfolk, kobolds, and bullywugs. However going to these ruins to shop would be ill-advised as the monstrous creatures may be willing to trade but may also be just as likely to kill whoever wanders into their midst. Rumors tell of the insides of the ruins having tunnels running under them and both being long undisturbed and completely unexplored.
Purpose / Function
The temple was originally built as a place of worship to Chauntea as well as to perform rituals and house the clergy. Since then it has fallen into ruins and now functions as a marketplace for the monstrous inhabitants of the swamp.
Alterations
Several market stands and a stage decorate the courtyard of the temple and the kobolds have even put up a statue of Carcaraxass' in place of the one that stood of Chauntea.
Architecture
Columns hold up platforms that run along the boundaries of the courtyard with gullys running underneath them where water once flowed. The main structure consists of a rectangular building with a triangular roof. A steeple rises from the tip of the roof rising into a bundle of wheat and flowers carved from stone, chipped and weathered but still standing high. A single tower rises above the structure originating from the North most corner of the temple. There are said to be hallways and tunnels running throughout and underneath the temple however no one knows for sure since none have ventured inside. In the center of the courtyard there used to be a statue depicting Chauntea but now there is a statue of blackstone depicting Carcaraxass is it's place.
History
When the first wave of settlers came to Mirik-Grove long ago they built this temple to honor Chauntea, besides this not much is known as these settlers died out long after the settlers that founded the current town of Mirik-Grove.
