Coniving, Corrupting, and Killing

Carcaraxass has a plot to slowly corrupt the people of Mirik Grove and have them die not only at her hands but at the hands of eachother. Mama Yakoba is the main coordinator of this however Carcaraxass maintains complete control. Like any good hag Mama Yakoba starts with the children, those vulnerable and easily influenced, and uses them to slowly spread her vile mindset and corrupt child, then family, and then town. So far she gave a gang of teenagers a dire wolf knowing they would use it for ill, she is also in the process of convincing Liana of the Tirion family to kill her father and mother so that she can inherit the families property and wealth. She has turned Ms. Gertrude into a salamander and keeps her in her cottage solely for the purpose of taking on her identity, and manipulating the children of the orphanage Ms. Gertrude ran, there are only 11 children in said orphanage but it’s enough to cause havoc.

Structure

Exposition

In the beginning the players are attacked by children and Mother Gertrude reveals herself.

Conflict

The party is consistently harassed by the orphans of Mother Gertrude's orphanage with them spying on them, stealing from them, and when the time is right straight up attacking them.

Rising Action

One of two things will likely happen. Either the guard will be against the players due to Mama Yakoba accusing them of child murder. If the players killed no children instead the villagers will begin to give them strange looks after a few days. Perception checks of a varying difficulty reveal villagers gossiping against them. Eventually people will refuse to serve them and sell to them. The only people that are exceptions are those that the party has already helped such as Penny Yira, Farmer Macmiller, Arian the priest, and of course Rynn, and the Carigan Family (the homeless people). The players must deal with Mama Yakoba or else the situation will only get worse with the worst results being getting exiled. If this happens Mama Yakoba will propose a deal. She will fix their reputation in town and they will be renowned again however, they must serve her and Carcaraxass. The contract she uses to make this deal is magically binding so that you cannot break it without 1. Drinking a potion brewed from the essence an extremely chaotic being which will allow them limited time to be somewhat free of it and then 2. Killing Mama Yakoba.

Climax

The climax happens when the players choose. The only way to stop this nonsense is to kill Mama Yakoba. If they confront her when she is Mother Getrude the orphans will likely attack as well and she always has 2 small dogs that follow her around which are dire wolves in disguise. She is very tricksy and will rarely fight head on and prefers to flee and watch from the shadows.

Falling Action

After Mama Yakoba is killed the players reputation will steadily recover and the orphans will be mad and Rose will be free.

Resolution

If they reveal that they killed her to Mayor Kireth they will be celebrated with a festival which will be put on the calendar as "Yakoba Night" This festival include children dressing up as monsters and other children dressing up as adventurers. Throughout the night villagers will mimic what happened in this adventure and a woman will play Mama Yakoba and some other people will play the heroes. They reenact killing her and throw a feast. The players are also given a reward. First of all the players all receive silver lined pins with small emeralds around a golden apple in the center. "This will ensure that everyone in Mirik Grove will never think of disrespecting you again." Benefits of wearing this pin can include discounts, dismissal of a crime or two depending on the severity, gifts from random villagers, and general respect. In addition the players receive 500 GP. However, Carcaraxass is not happy about the death of Mama Yakoba.

Backdrops

Locations

Mother Gertrudes orphanage, Mirik Grove, possibly the Rot-Hide village, and Mama Yakobas lair.

Threats

Mama Yakoba goes by the name of "Mother Gertrude" while working in the orphanage in Mirik Grove which is named after her. She spends most of her time beating, rewarding, and talking to the orphans there. There are 11 orphans total and all but one have been turned into evil, conniving, and brutal miscreants. When she desires she will send them out to rob houses, kill animals, and generally wreak havoc. They are nothing more than children however Mama Yakoba has given them a handful of magical items including a sending stone to Camilla (the other one is in Yakobas possesion), a dagger of venom to Gerald, earrings of perfect recollection to Sammy, and finally obedience earrings to Rose, the one good child. The other orphans do not have anything special besides some trinkets but are named Brielle, Robin, Mary, Derrick, Callum, and Samantha. Mama Yakoba also has her dogs "Beanie" and "Berry" which appear to be terriers but are actually dire wolves. Mama Yakoba also has a hag vehicle made from the hallowed out eggshell of one of Carcaraxass' eggs.
