Wizard: War Mage
War Mages are wizards trained in the art of battle, combining the destructive power of evocation with the protective strength of abjuration. They wield their magic as both weapon and armor, seizing control of the battlefield with spells that strike with precision and defenses that shield against attacks. Their expertise allows them to turn opponents’ magic against them, making them versatile and formidable combatants.
Level 3: Arcane Deflection
- Arcane Buckler:
- When hit by an attack, you can take a Reaction to gain +2 bonus to AC, possibly causing the attack to miss.
- This bonus lasts until the start of your next turn.
- Arcane Lifesaver:
- When you fail a saving throw, you can take a Reaction to gain +4 bonus to that saving throw.
- After using this feature, you can only cast cantrips until the end of your next turn.
Level 3: Tactical Wit
- Add your Intelligence modifier to your Initiative rolls.
Level 6: Power Surge
- Spell Denier: You always have Counterspell and Dispel Magic prepared.
- Number of Power Surges:
- You can store Power Surges up to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1).
- After a Long Rest, you reset to 1 Power Surge.
- If you end a Short Rest with zero Power Surges, you gain 1.
- Gaining Power Surges:
- Successfully ending or interrupting a spell with Counterspell or Dispel Magic grants you 1 Power Surge.
- War Magic Surge:
- Once per turn, when you deal damage with a Wizard spell, you can spend 1 Power Surge to deal extra Force damage equal to your Wizard level to one target of the spell.
Level 10: Durable Magic
- While maintaining Concentration on a spell, you gain +2 bonus to AC and all saving throws.
Level 14: Deflecting Shroud
- When you use Arcane Deflection, choose up to three creatures within 60 feet you can see. Each takes Force damage equal to half your Wizard level.
