Magic of the book—that’s what many folk call wizardry. Wizards spend their lives poring over tomes and recording magical discoveries, and a wizard in the Order of Scribes magically awakens their spellbook into a trusted companion.
Wizard: Order of the Scribes
Wizards of this order dedicate themselves to preserving and expanding arcane knowledge, with their awakened spellbooks serving as magical allies.
Wizardly Quill (3rd Level)
- As a bonus action, create a Tiny magical quill in your free hand with these properties:
- Does not require ink and produces ink in any color you choose.
- Copying a spell into your spellbook takes half the usual time (2 minutes per spell level) when using the quill.
- You can erase text within 5 feet by waving the quill over it as a bonus action.
- The quill disappears if you create another or if you die.
Awakened Spellbook (3rd Level)
- Grants the following benefits while you hold your spellbook:
- Can be used as a spellcasting focus for wizard spells.
- When casting a spell with a spell slot, you can replace its damage type with one from another spell in your spellbook of the same level.
- Cast wizard spells as rituals using normal casting time (no +10 minutes) once per long rest.
- You can replace the spellbook during a short rest by copying its consciousness into a new book using the Wizardly Quill.
Manifest Mind (6th Level)
- As a bonus action, manifest your spellbook’s mind as a Tiny spectral object within 60 feet that:
- Is intangible, sheds dim light (10 feet), and can see and hear with darkvision 60 feet.
- Telepathically shares senses with you (no action required).
- Allows you to cast wizard spells as if you were in the mind’s space, up to a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per day.
- Can move up to 30 feet as a bonus action and pass through creatures but not objects.
- Stops manifesting if over 300 feet away, dispelled, destroyed, or dismissed.
- Recharges after a long rest or by expending any spell slot.
Master Scrivener (10th Level)
- After a long rest, you can create one magic scroll by touching your Wizardly Quill to paper.
- The scroll holds one 1st- or 2nd-level spell from your Awakened Spellbook with a casting time of 1 action.
- The spell’s level is increased by one for the scroll’s casting.
- The scroll is unintelligible to others and the spell vanishes after casting or after your next long rest.
- You reduce gold and time costs for crafting spell scrolls by one third when using your Wizardly Quill.
One with the Word (14th Level)
- Gain advantage on all Intelligence (Arcana) checks while your spellbook is on your person.
- If you take damage while the spellbook’s mind is manifested, you can use your reaction to dismiss the mind and prevent all that damage.
- Doing so causes your spellbook to temporarily lose spells with combined levels of 18 or more for one week.
- If not enough spells are available, you drop to 0 hit points instead.
- You cannot cast the lost spells from any source until the week passes.
- This reaction can only be used once per long rest.
