Luboo Sweets (Loo-boo)

Luboo Sweets is the commercial name for a type of treat that was marketed to the owners of pet luboos as a way to delay the creatures from reaching maturity. You see, luboos start out as sweet cuddly little mammals, but upon reaching maturity, they transform overnight into ferocious beasts with sharp claws and wicked teeth. For a time, baby luboos became popular as pets, in the Roslexian Sector of Kantostara, until the horror stories began to spread of the destruction left in their wake when they suddenly transformed. Needless to say, that put quite a damper on the market for baby luboos until Luboo Sweets were touted as the solution to the problem.

Description

  Luboo Sweets are small round brightly colored treats that were fed to baby luboos on a daily basis in order to prolong their immature stage, thereby also delaying their transformation from cute and cuddly pets into ferocious beasts. The treats were coated with a chemical that was scientifically formulated to retard the aging process giving luboo owners a much longer time to enjoy their sweet little pets before needing to deal with the creature's mature form.

Manufacturing

  Luboo Sweets made use of a chemical technology that was originally intended to produce supplements that would slow the aging process in people. Unfortunately, it proved to be ineffective for that purpose, but it did seem to work for luboos, so the technology was re-purposed.

Effectiveness

  While the Luboo Sweets did seem to be effective at first, their use was ultimately abandoned when it was discovered that they caused long term damage. When the baby luboos did eventually reach maturity, their transformation was much more dramatic. They were bigger, stronger, and much more aggressive than those who had matured normally. They were crazed and impossible to control, not even recognizing the ones who fed and cared for them, as a normal luboo would. Many pet owners were injured, some even killed, and all of the luboos who had been given Luboo Sweets eventually had to be euthanized.
