The Sage
Cadelion
The Gem of the Sage has always been presented in the artistic works of Kalio, as a perfect cube, made of a cyan crystal, nearly transparent, but enough color to change what is viewed through it. The being that was formed from its grasp started like most of Kalio, naive and full of questions. However, it devoured knowledge like fire can consume a forest. Within years, the Sage not only understood all sentient life had learned to that point, but also began to lead research as fast as it could be generated.
It was his math that first suggested the existence of other existences beyond Kalio’s grasp, such as the Everwilds that would be discovered by the Mother, or the plane of Shadow that is often hidden from view. He was the first to reach to the stars and contact the creatures that live within the Void, and he even found the planes where the magical elements reign pure. When the Source discovered the power of arcane magic, it was the Sage that learned to codify it and turn raw power, into constant reliable results.
The Sage was one of the few gods that abstained from conflict during the Void War, but it was by their teachings that many a Kalian was able to stand by the sides of the gods, using magic and enchanted items that were only possible because of the codified magic. It was always a disappointment when Kalians used magic for destruction for the Sage, but it always seemed there was a quiet acceptance that was the way things were.
When the Void War ended at the fall of their mother, many of the Gods were angered at their sibling for avoiding conflict when his great knowledge may have saved their mother. They simply smiled and said it was meant to be. This statement has confused many scholars for ages, but many believe that the Sage knew Kalio would be a casualty of the war, no matter what they did. Such foresight has been hotly debated but no clear answer can be made. No matter what their reasons, the Sage was banished for their cowardice, and for some time seemed that they were not going to give up their heart. But like the rest of their siblings, the Sage took their heart and in the desert, they were banished to, placed their heart to protect the life their mother had cherished so dearly.
Worship of the Sage tends to be an academic endeavor, with Scholars often dedicating books to the pursuit of the god’s knowledge, and tradesmen certifying the training of their apprentices with a blessing to the Sage. All Wizards to some extent respect the god, as he was the origin of their craft, but such healthy respect is also tempered. When you approach the secrets the Sage held, sometimes you can become removed from the world. Such occurrences can leave you inhumane, or beyond the comforts reality holds.
