Aakaveidal Mountains (ɑɑkʼɑvɛidɑɭ)

Geography

The Aakaveidal (/ɑɑkɑvɛɪdɑl/ "Earthen Fortress"), known as Qau-len to the Qou-Yaan Confederacy) is a natural fortress: the mountains rise high enough to rival smaller hights of the Allfire Peaks. This mountain range blankets the majority of the southeastern regions of Alpen, surrounded by the Yahiar Steppes. These mountains are rugged and maze-like, with winding trails that spike up and down, unless one knows where to look.
In the center of the mountains is a gigantic plateau home to the Aakaveid. This mesa spans at least 395,000 sq miles of land and rises 2,500 m above the sea at its highest peaks, which brings warm air from the southern reaches of the tableland.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

Many of the peaks are home to a wide assortment of wildflowers and herbs. Shrubs and various flowering plants dot the mountainsides, while most of the grasses and trees are found on the plateau. While forests do exist, most of the plateau's surface is covered in grass, with a few trees and shrubs dotted throughout the land.

Fauna

Unsurprisingly, much of the mountains' wildlife is found on the central plateau. Even their, most of the animals are well adapted to traversing the crags and rocks: many types of goats and their close relatives traverse the peaks and falls of the mountains, while antelope dominate the plateau. One of the dominant predators of the region is the snow leopard, which is present in both the mountains and the plateau.
