The Erayax launch a surprise attack of Sartinia overwelming the defenses with large numbers and force those defending it into retreat

Days before the attack, forces for Geldheim, Hadovea and the Contested lands arrived at the invite of the Scholars guild to inspect the defences of Sartinia. To these forces it was a routine diplomatic mission with no trouble expected.
  Although missions on behalf of the guild ensure opposing factions will work together this does not mean, that deep seeded hostile attitudes between each other are fully submerged. On 12th Ashay 2024, after a few barbs were thrown a fist fight resulted between Hadovean and Geldheim forces who were outside of the fort on patrol. Forces from the Contested Land were caught up in the brawl. It was here that the Erayax first made their presence know. ambushing the fighting soldiers and taking Baelin of the Red Company prisoner.
Over the day and the following night Baelin was tortured for the entertainment of the Erayax. Then in the early hours of the 13th Ashay 1258, the Ashnoorian Leaders were invited to parlay with the Erayax to hear the Erayax demands. The Erayax demanded the forces defending Sartinia withdraw and as a gesture of "Good Will" the Erayax will guarantee their safety while withdrawing and allow them to take 1/4 quarter of the townsfolk with them to safety. This offer was rejected by the Sartinia defenders. The Erayax did however release Baelin, their stated reason being that they felt he should die with his people.
It was hours after this that the Erayax attacked. Huge numbers of their warriors advanced on the Sartinia defences. The numbers were overwhelming and their tactics brutal and without mercy. Those defending Sartinia fought valiantly, holding off the Erayax advance for far longer than they would reasonably be expected to. However, the sheer weight of numbers at the disposal of the Erayax ultimately saw the defences fall as the Erayax flooded into Sartinia, cutting down people as they pushed through.
With Sartinia clearly now lost those defending forces quickly turned thier focus on securing the escape of the townsfolk. Amidst the blood, gore and horror of the Erayax advance, approx. 330 townsfolk were saved out of a pre-encounter townsfolk population of a little over 500. After getting those townsfolk that did survive to safety, the decision was made by the guild representatives, for the Geldheim forces to further escort them to Hillfort to be resettled behind its defences.
