An Artifact retrieved to cure Ponts crumbling walls is lost after an ambush

The Scholars Guild and the Kingdom of Geldheim discover a artifact that could cure the current curse plaguing Pont since the destruction of their statue. With permission for the Duke of Moridale the retire the artifact only to later be set upon by bandits

Ever since the destruction of Pont’s famous golden statue there have been vague reports of issues around the city, water spoiling, walls crumbling. Unbeknownst to almost everyone is an ancient curse is affecting Pont. The statue held the effects at bay but without it the city and its inhabitants will suffer. In secret the Kingdom has been working with the Scholars Guild and the Mages Guild to find a solution and after months of study and research they found what they have been looking for. The resting place of ancient artifact was located in the territory of the Duchy of Moridale. With the reluctant approval of the Duke a group was sent out to collect it. Only the leader of the group, a representative of the Scholar's Guild, knows the true purpose of this expedition. Their mission was a success and several relics were recovered from the ruins including the much needed magical artifact. This joy however was short-lived when the returning convoy was attacked. Although the convoy defended valiantly they were ultimately defeated and the artifact stolen. Many believe the ambushers were secretly employed by the Duke himself.
