Military: Battle
Moridale repels the first Kindgom attack on the Walls of Moridale.
The horns blared as the Kingdom’s forces breached the outer barricades, weapons drawn. The city garrison, resolute and prepared, braced themselves behind their shields, facing the oncoming wave of blue-clad soldiers. For a moment, the two sides clashed in a brutal contest, but the defenders held their ground. Amidst the chaos, a small contingent of the Order of St. Allards moved through the turmoil with grim efficiency, rounding up any civilians still caught behind the Kingdom’s line and shepherding them to safety. But then, a sudden surge from the defenders of Moridale pushed the Kingdom forces back, forcing the Geldheim armies to escalate their tactics. The House of Smith’s heaviest troops, clad in the finest armor, rushed forward with urgency. Massive powder kegs, hastily prepared and drawn from the Kingdom’s encampment, were strategically placed along Moridale’s defensive line. With a deafening roar, the kegs detonated, sending shockwaves that rattled the foundations of the city. The explosion threw the defenders into disarray, allowing a contingent of Raven Clan warriors, bolstered by a few Red Company mercenaries, to rush the main gates. A series of small explosives were set on the hinges, and when the defenders triggered the traps by sealing the gates, they tore apart, leaving gaping holes in Moridale’s once-impregnable barrier. Emboldened by the breach, the Kingdom forces mounted a final, desperate push, hoping to end the siege before nightfall. But the walls of Moridale proved an unforgiving adversary. Volley after volley of powder and shot shredded the advancing troops, and those few fortunate enough to reach the gates were met by a reinvigorated garrison, resolute and ready to hack down anyone foolish enough to get close. A lone ranger, his Ironguard insignia glinting in the chaos, found a way through the defenders' sally ports. With brutal precision, he cut down pistoleers and riflemen, clearing a path for his comrades to advance. But the Kingdom’s forces were dwindling. Every attempt to breach the gates was met with stiff resistance, and the defenders fought with unyielding fervor. Just as the Kingdom’s last reserves made their final assault on the gates, Moridale’s defenders, anticipating the move, struck swiftly from the rear. The Kingdom’s forces, exhausted and stretched thin, found themselves outflanked. With no reinforcements and the siege faltering, the Kingdom gave the order to retreat. The bloodied and weary soldiers withdrew to their encampment outside the walls of Moridale, their ambitions for Moridale crushed, at least for the day.
