Military: Battle
The Kingdom of Geldheim take control of Dragonspan defeating the forces of the Duchy of Moridale and also discover evidance of Moridale links to the Erayax
The battle for Dragonspan began with a daring Geldheim assault. A vanguard unit charged the fortified door, detonating a powder keg that sent splinters and debris flying in all directions. As the explosion echoed through the valley, Geldheim’s 32-pound cannons roared to life, pounding the front stone towers until they crumbled into rubble. Under a relentless hail of fire from Moridale's defenders and their powerful ballista, Geldheim's main force pressed forward, battering down the remains of the shattered gate. The sheer intensity of the assault left onlookers certain that Moridale’s defenses would soon collapse, despite their advantageous position. But Moridale was not so easily broken. In a bold counterattack, their warriors executed a daring raid, sneaking a powder keg into the heart of the Geldheim artillery. The resulting explosion devastated the cannons, neutralizing Geldheim’s most formidable weapon. Undeterred, the attackers surged into Dragonspan, breaching its defenses and flooding onto the bridge fort. However, their advance came at a heavy cost. Moridale, recognising that only a decisive counteroffensive would buy them time to rebuild, fought with unrelenting ferocity. In the thick of battle, the Geldheimers made a shocking discovery—Rask of the Erayax was among the Moridale ranks, disguised in an attempt to conceal his identity. It was Kindred who first noticed the subtle traits of an Erayax Gunslinger hidden within the enemy lines. When he alerted Lord Trelor Smith of the House of Smith, the keen-eyed noble immediately identified the figure as Rask himself. Outraged by the deception, the Geldheimers fought with renewed fury. With precise and deadly efficiency, Trelor and his archers and gunner eliminated key Moridale commanders, while Jarl Hildra Erikson of the Raven Clan, aided by House of Smith shieldsmen, wreaked havoc in the front lines. Meanwhile, Kindred pursued Rask, determined to capture him. Though Rask barely managed to escape, the momentum had shifted. The battle reached its turning point when Mace Lormoy, veteran knight of the Order of St. Allards, spotted a fleeting weakness in the Moridale line. Seizing the opportunity, he commanded the Geldheim forces to press the attack. The final resistance crumbled, and Dragonspan fell to Geldheim. With the bridge fort secured, the victorious Geldheim forces advanced deeper into the Duchy of Moridale, establishing a forward camp within sight of the great walls of Moridale itself. News of the battle spread swiftly across Geldheim, Hadovea, and Doomsayers Keep. Most notably news of the Erayax. Predictably, the Duke of Moridale dismissed the reports of Rask’s presence as baseless rumours. Yet The Duchy of Moridale was a lonely voice—across the land, even the Hadoveans, often skeptical of Geldheim reports deemed the claims credible. Some within the Hadovean high command, however, mockingly suggested that Rask’s escape was due to Geldheim incompetence—a barb that did not go unanswered, as insults soon flew between the rival factions.
