Aylerian

The peoples that inhabit the forest realm of Ayleria, in northeastern Thrask. Ayleria is a nation of Fey, and fey diaspora.
-----
The forest Realms of Ayleria are in the northern region of Thrask. Ayleria is a haven to Halfblood Elves and the Fae species that live on Thrask. A vast region of wilderness and forests, Ayleria is largely undeveloped (outside of the few elven metropolises). Aylerian cultures are a patchwork of various species, social structures and regional oddities. The culture is backdropped with a history of negative interactions with other cultures, ranging from indifference to outright attempted genocide. This has led to a reserved, cautious, and distrustful worldview in many of the residents of this lush, wild land.

The primary cultural group is the Conclave, a well organized, democratic republic, that values Isolationism, Pacifism, and general cautiousness.   The Bloodwatch is both the military of the nation, but also a cultural touchstone, a divide in ideology with the rest of the conclave, Bloodwatch cultural values are placed in skill, bravery, perception and leans toward xenophobia and hawkishness.

The Wild Clans are the least organized and most varied, though a general trait value of traditionalism, freedom and distrust of large governments is common.

Naming Traditions

Family names

Given the diverse nature of races within Ayleria, names vary greatly in language, but once translated there are some dominant traditions:

First name = Root name - given at birth, typically containing part of a parent's name
Second name = Heart name - given later in life (childhood) by a loved one, usually a beloved caregiver - typically relating to some personality trait
Third name = Sky name - name that can change over time, often given by peers, friends, or lovers then adopted by the namee - typically relates to deeds, occupation, or a physical trait (usually complimentary)
The Heart name is commonly used with acquaintances with the Sky name being reserved for closer friends, much like a nickname

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Sylvan is the predominant language of Ayleria, though the wild clans often have pidgeon dialects and the elven conclaves typically use elven in everyday life.

Culture and cultural heritage

Due to the history of negative, and even violent, interactions with other cultures, there is a dominant reserved, cautious, and distrustful worldview in many of the residents of this lush, wild land.

Shared customary codes and values

Succor to the stranger, the bond of ones word is paramount.

Common Dress code

In the central regions, especially the major elven cities, flowing garments, robes and wraps are common. The Blood Clans wear aggressively practical garments, eschewing almost all adornment.

Art & Architecture

Graceful, planned, and intertwined with the landscape and terrain around it.

Common Taboos

In the Conclave cities, eating flesh is often looked down upon, or outright scorned. Oathbreakers are branded usually facially or on the hands.

Ideals

Relationship Ideals

Commitment and loyalty, but usually not in a traditional context. In romance, Aylerians believe in honoring and providing for their partners, but exclusivity is not assumed, especially among elves, where lifespans last centuries. Relationships, platonic, romantic, or otherwise are to be cherished and nurtured, but with the understanding that all things end, in their own time.
