The Stalwart Blades

In this new era of laws and regulations, it is only natural that it would be reflected in one of the Three Brothers, the largest of the adventurings guilds on Joia. There are even those who say that the Stalwart Blades is one of the defining pillars of the new world. As adventures became more limited in their options and restricted in what they were allowed, there was quite a large amount of pushback from the adventures themselves. There was a need for someone to oppose the rouge adventures who were actively harming the nations that ruled them. From this need, the Stalwart Blades, and specifically their Guildmaster Marcel Sunguard, rose. Starting only as a few men and women, the Blades earned quite a reputation, with the brutal execution of the Twin Chosen cult being a particularly significant event in their history.   This reputation as the hounds of the Grand Council would only become more true as they continued to grow. The most obvious example of this is the fact that they are closer to a small private army than any sort of adventuring guilds. They, among other things, have an actual ranking system, and all new recruits are necessitated to spend time training with their peers under a superior. They also, with some exceptions, do not have permanent adventuring groups, with adventurers instead being chosen for the assignment at hand. Lastly, there is the fact that the Guild only takes missions from the Grand Council, meaning they are primarily used against threats that all nations can agree should be handled, often the quiet execution of rogue adventures.   The guild itself boasts few truly powerful spellcasters but does host an impressive array of martial and half-casters within their ranks. There has also often been speculation that adventures that score lawful on their alignment test are herded towards the Blades, though no solid proof has ever been presented.

Structure

At the top of the Guild sits Marcel Sunguard, the founder of the Guild. One man cannot run a guild however and therefore has commanders underneath him who are in charge of most of the administrative work as well as the instructors. Separate from this system are the adventures themselves, who start out as recruits before becoming a novice. These might eventually transition into seasoned adventurers and eventually expert adventures with a small amount instead becoming specialists who answer only to the Guildmaster. A seasoned adventurer has the same authority as an instructor and often transitions into the role after their prime, with expert adventures being above both but below commanders.

Culture

The Stalwart Blades culture is one of strict professionalism. Adventurers within the organization might be different when on field missions but the strict nature is overall true more than not. This has given them a reputation for being cold, uncaring, and unapproachable.

Public Agenda

The agenda of the Stalwart Blades is to preserve peace and quell chaos wherever it can be found.

History

The Stalwart Blades started as little more than a dream from a single man. Marcel Sunguard was a man with but a single goal. He was hellbent on ridding the world of chaos, and he would start with adventures. This would first truly be fulfilled with the execution of the Twin Chosen cult.   Two aasimar had managed to corral the favor of some eldritch deity and was using it to assassinate high-ranking members of the Kingdom of Thenniden. They were cautious, deadly, powerful, and killed by the hands of Sunguard within the first year of the Guild being formed in a battle that can best be described as ruthless. This was the standard that was first set, and the sheer tenacity with which it has followed it has taught adventures to think twice before deciding to go around the system in place.
