Mountain's End
Nestled in the northernmost region of Ixala lies a moderately sized city, once a humble outpost for miners eager to traverse the perilous bridging mountains that lead into the enigmatic world of Domhan Rhunda. Originally established to support these solitary prospectors, the settlement gradually evolved into a vibrant city, attracting weary adventurers from far and wide who sought refuge, companionship, and the thrill of discoveries or quests.
As a proud part of the Kingdom of Owenar, the city's residents benefit from the protection of Owenarian law, which ensures their rights and safety. The local government is overseen by House Morncloth, a distinguished family known for their rich history as seasoned adventurers and veterans of war. Under their stewardship, the city has flourished, becoming a hub of activity where tales of heroism and adventure are woven into the very fabric of daily life. The streets bustle with merchants selling unique wares, taverns echo with laughter and camaraderie, and guilds offer opportunities for both novice and skilled adventurers to embark on new journeys.
Demographics
The main demographic of the city is simply adventurers. This consists of a large variety of mortal races that hail from all over Ixala. Within that community are regular residents who serve as bureaucrats in the local government, or miners from the Pale Stone Tribe. Apart from that, and the kingdom's military enforcing its laws, there is hardly much influence or authority taking part in livelihoods.
Government
The local government specializes in representing the adventurers' guilds of the Kingdom of Owenar. Its local laws are second only to those written in the kingdom's constitution. The military enforces both kinds of laws and promotes order, but the adventure guilds have been known to assist in those efforts when requested. The policies of the city are governed by the legislatures of Mountain's End, which are selected by a simple majority vote. House Morncloth acts as the host for this legislature and commands the military under the orders of the King.
Defences
The Kingdom of Owenar has stationed a small army to protect its citizens with approximately 1,100 soldiers and knights. Basic anti-siege equipment and weapons are stored in Castle Morncloth. Due to the majority of citizens being adventurers, the military must station experienced or highly trained soldiers to combat the disorderly. At hidden points in the mountain, the Pale Stone Tribe has mounted advanced heavy cross-bow turrets that can launch bolts through vast distances to a target.
Industry & Trade
The largest trades within the city are quest jobs and mining. The adventurer guild organizes requests from factions all over the world. The more difficult the quest, the more rewarding. This trade of work heavily funds the guilds and helps them accommodate their guildmates. In addition, these guilds pull funds together to prepare official expeditions to Domhan Rhuda, the secret world. The Pale Stone Tribe has been practicing mining the mountains since the dark ages. Their efficiency in the trade has rewarded them with wealth and the reputation of the tunnels that cross the mountains into the secret world. Among the rarest finds in their collection is silver steel ore. A remarkable mineral that exists nowhere else besides the underground caverns below Arcshire. Only in Archsire is It is melted down and forged into weapons in the tribe's blast furnaces. In addition to their mineral trade, the tribe also has a talent for the construction of steam-powered technology.
Infrastructure
Most houses are structured with elevated foundations to prevent the damaging effects of snow during the intense winter so close to the mountains. In the event of an avalanche, the outer wall facing the mountains is fortified to hold large quantities of snow. Each house is designed to shelter multiple residences to accommodate the large population of adventurers. The guilds' headquarters are built to withstand harmful winters and use a unique heating system in which snow is recycled while the heat of the steam warms the rooms. In the Stone Corner district, the tribesmen use large blast furnaces to collect snow and ice to boil into water for communal use. The community uses markings to control traffic with the roads buried in snow. North of the city is an encampment for training and preparation for the journey through the mountain tunnels. Its entrance is locked with massive heavy doors made of silver steel. East of the city lies the gloomy and impenetrable Castle Morncloth a single spire tower that offers a view of the far south of Westenra and the capital Arcshire.
Districts
There are only 3 districts in this city, the Stone Corner, the Guiding Hand, and Castle Morncloth.
The Stone Corner: Located in the northeast corner of the city, it operates as a forge station for minerals found in the mountains. The heat from the furnaces is used in a boiling mechanism that channels hot water throughout the city. The district is housed by the Pale Stone Tribe who resided in this area for centuries. Their engineering and blacksmithing constructed steam-powered mechanisms used all over the continent of Westenra.
The Guiding Hand: The largest and most populated district of the city. Housing and accommodations are provided by the wealth of the guilds that reside in it. Among these are the adventurer guilds whose base of operations serves as guildhalls for providing quests and feeding the community.
Castle Morncloth: East of the city is the castle that houses the Morncloth Family. Built to withstand a siege, it is mainly used by the elected officials of the local government to enact legislation processes in its auditorium.

History
Mountain's End, a city etched into the harsh landscape of the Dark Ages, stands as a testament to resilience, adaptation, and the enduring pursuit of progress. Its origins, rooted in the year 433 DA, were humble, a mere mining settlement established by the Pale Stone Tribe under the auspices of the powerful Silver Fang Tribe. Once home to its founder Resserys, the legendary red dragon who aided in the smelting of the ore for the tribes. Initially, the settlement served a singular purpose: extracting the valuable resources that lay hidden within the mountains. However, its strategic location and the unwavering dedication of its inhabitants soon transformed it into a pivotal point of defense, safeguarding the interests of both tribes. Moreover, its forges became renowned, supplying the Paladin Order of Svaldr in the Dragon Peaks to the northeast with the weapons and armor necessary to uphold their sacred duty.
A watershed moment arrived in 573 DA with the Kingdom of Owenar's decisive victory over the Silver Fang Tribe's chieftain. This conquest triggered a significant expansion of the settlement, as it opened its gates to welcoming citizens seeking refuge and opportunity. The Kingdom, in its wisdom, bestowed ownership of the city upon House Morncloth, who established their ancestral seat, Castle Morncloth, within its burgeoning walls. This marked the beginning of Mountain's End's transition from a resource-driven outpost to a fortified city under noble rule.
Despite this period of growth, the seeds of discord were sown. By 180 ADA, the shared prosperity of the Pale Stone and Silver Fang tribes was threatened by escalating tensions over the ownership of the coveted silver steel ore. Each tribe claimed the mantle of first discoverer, leading to a bitter dispute. The wisdom of Maester Judge Crom Valceran ultimately resolved the conflict, establishing a delicate compromise. The Pale Stone Tribe retained rightful ownership of the mines, while the Silver Fang Tribe gained exclusive rights to manage the sale of forged weapons crafted from the ore. This decision, though a compromise, preserved the peace and allowed the city to continue its ascent.
The Pale Stone Tribe ushered in a new era of technological advancement in 258 ADA with their revolutionary invention of blast furnaces. This groundbreaking innovation, developed through the combined ingenuity of the tribe's Dwarven and human members, significantly improved metalworking capabilities. The increased efficiency in smelting and refining metals laid the foundation for more complex engineering. This newfound mastery of metallurgy directly led to the development of steam-powered technologies, a monumental leap that profoundly reshaped the Kingdom of Owenar. Beyond the immediate industrial applications, these steam-powered machines brought transformative changes to daily life. They provided much-needed heating for the brutal winter environment of Mountain's End, greatly improving living conditions. Furthermore, the advent of steam power spurred the creation of innovative new mechanics for both civilian and military use, fundamentally altering everything from infrastructure to warfare and propelling Owenar's civilization into an age of unprecedented progress.
The city's character underwent another profound shift in 593 ADA. The Kingdom's Parliament, recognizing the need for stability and exploration, initiated a coalition of adventurers from the Horizon's Dawn Tribe. This strategic move led to the establishment of numerous adventurer guilds, transforming Mountain's End into a vibrant hub for those seeking fortune and glory. The influx of adventurers stimulated the city’s economy, leading to increased housing and a wealth of benefits for guild members.
This era of exploration culminated in the audacious expedition to Donham Rhunda, the fabled hidden continent lying far to the north. By 600 ADA, the guilds had organized the first official expedition, venturing into the unknown. This daring endeavor sparked a wave of subsequent expeditions, with over 27 voyages undertaken to unravel the mysteries of the secret world.
From its humble beginnings as a mining settlement, Mountain's End has evolved into a dynamic city, shaped by conflict, innovation, and the unwavering spirit of its inhabitants. It stands as a testament to the enduring human capacity to adapt, to overcome, and to push the boundaries of the known world. Its history, forged in the fires of both industry and ambition, continues to unfold, leaving a lasting legacy on the landscape of the continent.
Climate
Because the city is located next to the slopes of the mountains in the north, it experiences more winters than summers in a given year. Snowfall is common, with blizzards occurring monthly. While rare, avalanches have been known to happen, but the outer walls help prevent them from overrunning homes. The temperature averages above arctic levels but The city, situated next to the northern mountain slopes, experiences more winters than summers throughout the year. "This place has been my home more than Arcshire. The others may call it a cold and damp city... but the cold reminds us that we have no guarantees in this cruel world. As adventurers, we face that cruelty when we venture into other lands. I will always strive to make this place a home for those with such ambitions. The furnaces will keep burning, the steam will keep flowing, and the cold wind will guide us to what lies beyond."
