Teal Magic

Time Magic

This is one of the newer magics, defined and created by a people long since lost. The Djinn were among the few who dared to dabble in altering time, manipulating it for their own needs, moving forward and back along an ever-changing timeline. Who is to say that they did not use this manipulation to their advantage, hiding their civilization with their magic, or was it this manipulation that became their downfall? Few wish to dabble in playing with time when it can so easily get out of hand.

Teal Magic is considered a rare form of magic, only utilized by the most trained of Scholars. As we understand it, time is like woven cloth. There are ways to manipulate it without unraveling the whole, but most changes will reduce the cloth to nothing more than a pile of string if one is not careful.

Because of this, Teal Magic is somewhat regulated by the High Council of the Arcane. Only a select handful of Mages are allowed to become full-fledged Chronomancers or others who utilize Teal Magic heavily. The world has already seen what one rogue caster can do, so it is paramount that those who can manipulate and change time are heavily watched.

Method of Acquiring

Teal Magic does not necessarily exist naturally within most of the humanoid species of the world, but it does exist in some locations. It is believed that this type of magic descends from the teachings of the Djinn and the god Olik, and its use and texts have been hidden fully for generations. With the correct ties to the Djinn, such as being a Majinn or of other descent related to the Djinn, or the blessing of Olik, one can slowly begin to learn the tenets of using such a powerful color of magic. Once the pathways have opened up for one to harness Teal Magic, they can begin the process of utilizing the magic, but this usage is heavily monitored.

Method of Use

Teal Magic is primarily invoked through vocalizations and written components while utilizing some sort of arcane focus. Spells must be written in specific runes and then recited aloud at an audible level to satisfy the requirements of the spell. The written component allows more precise manipulation of time as it is spelled out in the runes, but particularly skilled casters have been known to manipulate short amounts of time with nothing more than vocalizations and the appropriate hand gestures. This is very rare as this can allow spells to go wild and or may weaken the spell significantly, causing greater problems if the timeline is manipulated improperly.

Characteristics

Teal Magic is considered an extremely specialized magic that is neither offensive nor defensive, but is often called the magic of the Djinn. It is believed that the Djinn may have utilized this color of magic quite differently, but no records remain that give a broader picture of the uses of Teal Magic. The requirements to even gain the chance of wielding this magic, along with the strict guidelines imposed by the High Council of the Arcane, cause few to dabble with this magic and even fewer still to branch out beyond the accepted usage that has been recorded.

History

Teal Magic is considered one of the newest colors of magic as it was only fully recognized long past the days of the Djinn when a Scholar found ancient texts and could produce replicable results while using the magic. Many were reluctant to recognize such troublesome magic that could be used to cause irreparable harm by the wrong people, but many Scholars pushed for Teal Magic to be added to the spectrum, if only as a way to study fallen ancient civilizations.   Once recognized, Teal Magic became a formal practice among a handful of Scholars, but the teaching of said magic was only to be done at the recognized international magic academies by select instructors. Because of the implications of its use, Teal Magic would never become a widely used color of magic, but some Mages would dabble in the lesser spells of Teal Magic as parlor tricks.

The concept of time magic is always terrifying to me.
