Chronomancers
Wielders of Teal Magic
A portcullis slams behind a group of Adventurers as they make their way into a dungeon. The strength of the Barbarian and the cunning of the Rogue are not enough to raise it, allowing them to leave what is obviously a trap. With all physical efforts exhausted, they turn to the quiet member of their party, a Chronomancer who has said little as they have traveled. With runes drawn meticulously in the dirt before him and some words spoken quickly in a language long since lost, the portcullis slowly rises, paused at the top long enough for the small party to slip out before the Chronomancer releases his magic and allows it to slam shut behind them.
The call for a Cleric resounds through the infirmary as a small body comes in, vitality slowly leeching from the body. All becomes quiet as it is said that a Cleric will be too late, this small body withering away before one can make it here. A woman in the corner stands up, offering her services. Although not a healer, her time manipulation may be enough to slow the inevitable until a Cleric can arrive. With deliberate strokes of a finger drawn through blood, she marks the correct runes on the bedclothes next to the injured and channels her magic, slowing the bleeding for the minutes that would have surely ended the small one's life if left unchecked.
Chronomancers are the most well-educated of all Teal Magic users, manipulating small snippets of time to their whims, saving lives in the process. While society and the High Council of the Arcane may regulate and ostracize them, those who do spend the time to take up the mantle of Chronomancy also do so in the name of the greater good. With the correct spells and runes used together, Chronomancers can be invaluable members of adventuring groups and infirmaries, as well as many other places where even the smallest amounts of extra time are necessary.
Career
Qualifications
To become a Chronomancer, one must have ties to the Djinn or the blessing of the god Olik. This means one must be a Majinn or otherwise descended from the Djinn, have a pact with a Djinn, or have received a divine blessing. These requirements alone are difficult to meet, but once one has the ability to use Teal Magic at all, more qualifications are needed to become a Chronomancer.
Students wishing to study Teal Magic must enter one of the recognized international magic academies as Mages and are subjected to a number of tests by the High Council of the Arcane to see if one is trustworthy enough to utilize such magic. Once passing all of these tests, a Mage will study for a number of years to become a Teal Magic Scholar before dedicating another decade to becoming a Chronomancer. While many may want to become Chronomancers, it is one of the most difficult professions to enter.
Perception
Purpose
Chronomancers are those who utilize Chronomancy, also known as Time Magic or Teal Magic, to manipulate the flow of time in their favor. This is difficult to do as the current understanding of time on the material plane is explained as a woven fabric that can be unraveled easily if precautions are not taken. It is believed that this understanding of time does not translate to any of the other planes of existence, such as the Wandering Forest, Lost Paths, or any of the Celestial Realms.
These specialized Mages can manipulate small instances in time up to entire days or weeks, depending on their level of study and power. In most cases, these people rewind small things such as shutting doors, traps, and other puzzles, or a short time stop can be used at specific times. Overall, the magic used by Chronomancers is nothing more than small time manipulations that would not affect the overall timeline as some expect.
Social Status
Those who choose to become Chronomancers are either welcomed in communities or ostracized due to their magic. Many people became very suspicious of specific colors and types of magic after the Eldritch War, and due to the implications of what Teal Magic can be used for, this suspicion is also on Chronomancers, although these Mages are some of the most highly monitored and regulated of all Mages. It is possible that in a few hundred years, these feelings may change, but for the most part, Chronomancers are told to keep their color specialty fairly quiet.
