Aelinor Oaks are magnificent trees that grow only in the Elven Forest and will reach heights of hundreds of feet during their centuries-long lifespan. While overall a simple deciduous tree, these behemoths thrive through the magic of the fey that permeates the Elven Forest, allowing them to grow longer and taller than almost any other tree found in the world.
Once in the care of the Ancient Fey, the Aelinor Oaks are now cared for by the Emerald Elves that live in the Outlands. It is rare for even a cutting of these trees to survive outside the magic of the forest unless enchanted by the Unending Scroll to serve as a small decorative tree. This is a rarity and is considered a blessing to receive such a gift.
The stewardship of the Aelinor Oaks is a coveted position, one that is reserved mostly for the Outlanders, but the oldest of the oaks near the center of the forest and the capital are cared for by those trained at the Unending Scroll. While a solitary position, it is seen as one of honor that many would love to dedicate their lives to.
Aelinor Oaks are the most common tree found within the
Elven Forest. Known for their broad leaves, behemoth size, and magical properties, these trees are considered some of the oldest in the world and only thrive in the presence of the correct type of ancient magic. The stewardship of these trees is paramount to the livelihood and sustainability of the
Elven Kingdom.
Basic Information
Aelinor Oaks are some of the largest trees found in Isekai, often growing hundreds of feet tall. While they can only be found in the
Elven Forest, the wood of these trees is coveted across the
Northern Continent and has been known to be used as a bartering tool in some areas due to its high worth.
Growth Rate & Stages
Depending on where an Aelinor Oak is found, its growth rate may vary. Those nearer to the center of the forest have lived the longest, and although they continue to grow, the rate is relatively slow. Those on the fringes of the forest grow quickly and are often replaced as logging occurs in these areas for trade. Other than this, little is truly known about the growth rate and stages of the Aelinor Oaks as the
Eldritch War seems to have set back the forest a number of years.
Ecology and Habitat
Almost all of the
Elven Forest is covered in thick stands of Aelinor Oaks, except for a number of areas near the
Spine of Kallex. These trees prefer the lower elevations where the weather stays relatively warm, but can handle the colder temperatures near the base of the Spine.
The trees grow closer together towards the center of the forest, but are more sparse in the edges where the infant trees grow. Seeds often stray only to the edges of the forest so that the
older trees can continue to grow while the infant trees sprout and flourish in areas that are easily accessible.
Additional Information
Even without the vast magical networks that run through the forests and trees, the Aelinor Oaks are known for their hardwood and the various items that can be made from them. Only
Elves are allowed to harvest woods from the trees, but the beautiful wood from the Aelinor Oak can be found throughout the northern continent of
Vóreios as those on the edges of the
Elven realms use the profits from the infant trees to help buy goods from other kingdoms. In some rare cases, the wood of Aelinor Oaks is also used for bartering amongst various
Outlander tribes due to the various colors and patterns of wood that can only be found in select locations.
The Aelinor Oaks thrive in the
Elven Forest due to the magical network that runs through the root system of all plants. Overall, the trees have not exhibited magical properties other than their height and longevity, but the various parts, including wood, bark, and leaves, have some magical properties in certain cases. Not much is known about these properties, but the
Unending Scroll dedicates some scholarship to this innate magic.
Interesting read, and the art is superb, i'd see it as a header if it's big enough. Are feys and other critters known to live and hide in the trees for magic attunement ? Does the land nearby and the soil gets different/affected by the size and energy demands of the trees nearby ?
