Void Ray
Diet: Rocks, Buoyant Gasses
Able to fly by breaking down water into lighter than air Hydrogen, and the Oxygen it requires to live, these yet unnamed creatures are so far found in the Thorgerd system. Extensively documented first in a daring and scientifically progressive spacewalk autopsy by Dr. Etel Wardson, their digestion system is a complex array of gas storage bladders, complex mixing organs, and flesh pipes meant to carry the vital supply to all areas of the body.
A research expedition to the Thorgerd system in December 2669 discovered several new details about the mysterious Void Ray. Observer Akira Arthur noted that the creatures seem to prefer smaller and more easily disgestible pieces of ice for their source of water.
The Void Ray looks to be a solitary creature and choses to nest within cavities and caves on the thousands of asteroids within the Thorgerd system. They are not aggressive even when encountered within one of their nesting caves, preferring to flee rather than fight even though they do dwarf most humanoid sized intruders.
Reproduction is done through the external laying of clutches of between one and three eggs, insulated within some sort of homeostatis producing sac. The Void Ray pumps nutrients, heating gasses, and water in through a port on the external side of the sac.
It is currently unknown how long the actual gestation period is.
