Lycanthrope
Lycanthropes, also known as werewolves, are a subset of people in Vanori with the ability to transform into wolves. Outside the Kingdom of Shaedal and the wastelands of Zetrionia, most are treated as outcasts within Vanori and live on the fringes of society. Scholars have texts that mention their first appearance sometime after the fall of Zetrionia, but not much is known of their biology. They’re considered anomalies with some classifying their ability as a curse divine in nature.
Because of their ability, lycanthropes are treated as volatile entities that require containment and registration. Those who live outside Shaedal or Zetrionia, are often required to wear enchanted bangles due to strict shifting laws and to prevent loss of control. A lycanthrope who is unable to control their shifting is not that common of an occurrence, but there are those who are more prone to instability. These constraints are required because of past tragic incidents that left villages ravaged. Most lycanthropes are capable of shifting only during the Aetheris Moon, but there are some who are capable of shifting at will. Lycanthropes that are capable of shifting at will are a part of the Black Canidae, the oldest lycanthrope pact. The lycanthropes that continue to live in Shaedal and Zetrionia are able to live more freely without having to officially register or lawfully wear bangles. Bangles are only required of those who have unstable shifts, but even then, they are a last resort within the pacts.

History
"When the moon bleeds, we howl."The mention of Lycanthropes first appears after the fall of Zetrionia, and their true origins have been shrouded in myth and obscured by time. Ancient accounts suggest they were once the fierce guardians of Zetrionia cursed by the Ohmites for betraying their oaths to the gods. Others claim this is their curse after failing to mimic the power of the Ohmites and had been outcast because of their failure. What is known is that over time, their presence among the people of Zetrionia brought about fear. They were called unnatural, unclean, and dangerous. Lycanthropes had disappeared for a time, living amongst themselves on the fringes of the world. As new civilizations began to rise after Zetrionia, the werewolves encountered emerging societies who held new beliefs and retained less information of past history. These new enclaves viewed the lycanthropes less through the lens of superstition and more as anomalies of biology. Some were studied, some persecuted, and some found sanctuary. To survive in this new world, lycanthropes began adapting. Old bloodlines such as the Black Canidae preserved fragments of their heritage, while others transformed. The new groups formed based not on blood, but on ideology, purpose, and shared struggle. These groups became a new system of identity known as pacts.
