United Nations Interstellar Council
United Nations Interstellar Council (UNIC) is an international body that governs human exploration and colonization of space as well as maintains relative peace among the nations. It was founded in 2110 after a series of incidents between countries colonizing and exploiting the Solar System. The Council created a set of rules that limited the allowed size and compositiom of space navies of UN member states. It allowed for peaceful exploration, colonization and exploitation of space. The limits were raised after first contacts with aliens who could potentially be hostile. Additionally, an UN navy and army were formed.
Colonies
There are 3 types of human colonies: national colonies, joint colonies and UNIC colonies.
National Colonies
These colonies are founded and governed by goverments of Earth nations and UNIC has very little authority over them. In most cases national colonies are whole planets, but there are cases of two or more nations having colonies on the same planet.
Joint Colonies
Joint colonies are national colonies with considerate UNIC oversight. They are often a result of a nation requesting UNIC aid in establishing a colony. They also can be colonies of non-national organizations.
UNIC Colonies
There are also colonies founded through direct UN efforts. They are often international in nature and are under direct UNIC control. Most colonies in the Sol System fall under this category.
