Coffee Break

Disaster / Destruction

10076 ZC

One late day to work and a precariously balanced cup of coffee lead to a far more significant blunder than a stained set of robes.

With the guildpact restored and Tetra's career as a researcher in the Izzet league well on it's way, Tetra settles into a relatively normal schedule. He shares notes with Arin over coffee at a coffee shop in Hightower on Saturdays (It's expensive, but it's the best coffee around), and the day Tetra was transported to Faerun was no different. However, his conversation with Arin ran a bit long as Tetra described the intricacies of mana coils, his latest upgrade to his arcanomechanical armor. Realizing he was running late, Tetra hurriedly stacked up his research and equipment, grabbed his coffee and rushed to work. Today was the day they were testing their new transport device for the first time. This had been the main focus of the Laboratory for several weeks now, and though it was only in it's prototype stage the results were promising: Linked sets of portals that could transport someone between the two in an instant, allowing for unprecedented speed of travel on Ravnica. But the prototype took a significant amount of energy from the blistercoils, and today was the only day the Lab had to test it. As Tetra rushed into the laboratory, he tripped over one of the many cords attached to the device, and spilled his coffee all over the newly constructed device. This ruined the device that was controlling energy flow into the device, and it was soon overloaded with magical energy. As he gathered his belongings, Tetra could do naught but watch as the device exploded before him. But the overflow of mana into the portal not only blew it up, but amplified its magical effects as well; rather than simply damging the lab and injuring those caught in the blast, it teleported them not to the other linked portal but to another plane of existence. And so, this is where Tetra awakes after the blast: not on the floor of the laboratory or in some hospital bed, but on the floor of a dungeon outside the city of Baldur's gate. He's alive, but separated from his home plane with no clear way of returning. For one of the very few times in his life, Tetra is completely and utterly alone.
