Altan

Often referred to the City of the Seven Stars, Altan is a city inland of Kormyr, founded by a group of humans who sought to create a centric belief system for the land. Kormyr is prosperous, perhaps not as much as Pimaia or Drakesborough, but many of the people there live with powerful faith and strong ideals. Some churches you see throughout Kormyr often have connections to Altan or its nobility.

Religion

Altan has very strict policies on belief and worship, namely only allowing worship of seven major gods - Raimos, Oiequo, Cil'dann, The Shroud, Jagerv, Ry'Villus, and Lystra. All other gods are not approved by the church, or by the general populace, and as a result, are only practiced in secret. Those who do not publicly practice good faith, or shun the word of the gods, are generally outcast by society, or treated with ill will.

Government

Altan is governed based on a tree system of governance, and is tightly connected to the Church of the Seven. The city is governed largely by the council of High Viziers, of which there are 7, each representative of one of the seven gods, and considered to have a deep connection with said god or godess.   Church inhabitance by the city of Altan is divided into groups, which are each managed by a High Bishop, who follows multiple, if not all, of the Seven gods. There are upwards of 40 bishops, who reside over areas of Kormyr and the churches controlled by Altan. Under these bishops are the general priesthood, whom may control or reside over individual churches, shrines, et cetera.   Of the High Viziers, one is chosen by popular vote of the High Bishops every year at an event held in Altan referred to as the "Congregate". The High Vizier chosen becomes the Grand High Vizier (GHV) and is granted additional powers, and a small cabinet of Advisors (Referred to as the Advisory), who generally consist of nobles and high-up knowledge keepers of libraries and churches in Altan.   Legislation is passed first through the six High Viziers, whom decide on laws of the city by popular vote (4/6). The law is then passed to the GHV, who may veto or allow the law to be passed. Should the law be vetoes, the High Viziers can counter veto by a whole-house vote (6/6) against the GHV's orders.

Military

The High Grand Vizier also appoints their own High Admiral, who takes control over the Army of Altan. Though not as strong as the rival cities of Drakesborough and Pimaia, Altan's army is known more for their tenacity, and skilled healers and divine magic. The general strategy with Altan's army is to outlast the energy of their opponents, and generally, given their resources and provided skills, it works.

Life

Most Altan citizens live average commoner lives, and most of their activities reflect their beliefs, or whatever interpretation of their beliefs they wish to follow. Morning and Nightly prayers are not very common, but at least one or the other is practiced by a majority of the population.   The population in Altan has grown considerably since its settlement around 10AD, and is standing strong at about 650 people.   High Class citizenry is sparse in Altan- Most of the high class population are very connected with the church, either as strong donators to the cause, or high-level bishops.

Demographics

Altan's people are, of a majority, human. predominant races include Dwarves and Gnomes. Most Fey-like races are treated poorly, and thus don't settle down in Altan- Half-Elves, though, are still seen from time to time on the streets. Minor races around Altan include Dragonborn, Tieflings, and some Aarakocra and Kenku.

Relationships

Despite its strict belief system, Altan has established itself as a kind faction, and presents itself as a neutral party in most conflicts, but many doubt this, and suspect some form of conquest any time soon by Altan.

Infrastructure

Many of the religuous buildings in Altan are constructed of Marble and Wood, towering over other houses and other buildings, which are constructed from normal stone and wood. Stained glass windows are common to see in religious sects, and many are very finely crafted storytelling components in gospel, and must be approved by the church's bishop before completed and installed.   Rooftops of most Altan buildings are sloped, but very walkable, as many citizens sought to appreciate the churches emerging from the skyline of the city.
