Weapon
Soul Resonance!
Weapons are beings who can shift into armaments to defend themselves or others. They're able to do this because of the structure of their soul. There are three variations between Weapons: those naturally born, regular equipment gaining sentience, and the artificially changed.
Familial Type
Familial Type Weapons are those that have a biological bloodline. From birth, they are trained within their family network and taught how to use their talents. It is rare to see a Familial Type Weapon be unable to transform. But those who can not have exceptional spiritual abilities that make them phenomenal partners. Occasionally, a Familiar Type Weapon is born in a non-family weapon family. Ultimately, the person's soul dictates who can shift.Forge Type
Forge Type Weapons are items that gain consciousness after a long time. Interestingly, their creation involves their treatment and their wielder's personality. Well-taken care equipment has a higher chance of coming alive. Then, depending on the emotions and will of the person using it will determine if it happens. A sword used for countless murders in war has the same likelihood of coming to life as a patchwork teddy bear that's about to lose their owner.Feign Type
Feign Type Weapons are people artificially turned into weapons. Some desired the untapped power of the species, while others saw it as an alternative to death. These are the rarest since all methods involve manipulating their soul. In theory, if someone can precisely shape it, they can gain the abilities of a weapon. However, tampering with the soul is dangerous and can lead to death. Those who survive the operation gain the traits but often lose something in return. Despite the different types, all weapons want a partner. Constant battling and bonding help them break their limits. However, this innate desire can lead them into trouble if they're not careful.Basic Information
Anatomy
Weapons have two forms, their humanoid, and their armament form. While their humanoid form is random, there's consistency in their armament forms. There can be a sword family where each member looks nothing alike, but all are related.
Armament forms appear metallic, but no one can identify the type of metal. However, the older and more battle-hardened weapons are more durable than the less experienced.
Biological Traits
While they share traits from other species, Weapons have something of their own. They can shift between certain types of armament or gain a personal ability. One example is a sword changing into a greatsword or having the ability to generate fire.
Growth Rate & Stages
Besides growing and becoming more durable, Weapons go through several stages throughout their life. Depending on their personality and their wielder, they will radically change. A weapon that uses their abilities to become or help a serial killer will be very different from someone who becomes a knight and protects the innocent.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Familiar Weapons can't stay in their armament form forever. They do need to eat like everyone else. Likewise, they eventually need to shift. But this isn't as dire. Forge Weapons need to have a desire or a purpose, or they can shut down. What Feign Weapons need is complicated and varies between them.
Behaviour
Young weapons exhibit two types of behaviors: the constant desire of wanting a partner and being used. Then, once they form a partnership, some start showing toxic levels of selflessness. As they get older and learn what self-worth is, these traits lessen. Some might also form abandonment issues. On the less negative side, these traits also make them have an easier time working with others, and they will often help their wielder progress.
These traits heavily depend on the weapon type.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Weapons will often compare and brag about their wielders. Those partnered with royalty or an accomplished adventurer will be higher on the totem pole. Sometimes, those without a partner will be made fun of. However, they consider themselves not desperate enough to latch onto the first person they see.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
It usually depends on the kind of weapon. Familiar Types tend to get the more respectable quests, adventuring and stopping threats. Forge Types get more dangerous jobs and sometimes act as bodyguards. Feign Types are somewhere in between these two extremes. Whoever their wielder is could drastically change this dynamic.
Average Intelligence
While they have average intelligence, most weapons have their mind geared towards fighting. Some will spend nights figuring out battle strategies or combat drills for themselves and their team. It might seem like they're battle manics, but in reality, they deeply care for those around them and wish to avoid strategies.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
All weapon types can communicate with their wielders while in their armament form. They do this by setting up a psychic link. Some can take this further and enhance their and their partner's senses.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Weapons have two different names. Their parent decides on their humanoid name while they make their armament title. Their humanoid name can come from several factors, but it can be a reference to their birth or to honor something. Their second name comes much later in life, and it is frowned upon if they pick too early.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Weapon families train their children when they're young and often scout out partners for them. This tradition can help build familiarity, though it can also cause problems later for both children. For Forge, some serve entire family lines, waiting for the next successor.
Common Taboos
Having multiple partners is looked down upon for several reasons. It makes the weapon seem unreliable and afraid of commitment. Similarly, it said that weapons shouldn't share a partner in case a rivalry forms or other complications happen. Despite these warnings, people have found workarounds.
Common Myths and Legends
There are several stories and legends shared amongst their kind. Some detail what legendary weapons were capable of, while others talked more about their wielder. Many myths highlight unlikely friendships and what it means to be a weapon and a wielder.
While legends can inspire legends, they can also act as warnings. A widely known fable details a young boy seeking revenge for his fallen village. With the help of a cursed sword, they massacred all their enemies. He did get what he wanted, but he could feel nothing but rage and wanted more bloodshed.
Because of the unpredictability of the world, Weapons tend to take myths and legends very seriously.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Weapons are a welcoming race that likes giving everyone an equal chance. But at their core, they view others as a way to satisfy their desires. While there are Weapons that form genuine connections, some view their wielders as tools, ironically enough.
Other species see them as treasures and will try their damndest to get their hands on a weapon. However, most people are unprepared to become a wielder.
Lifespan
Familiar Types live longer than humans. However, some are exceptions to this rule. Forge Types don't age. They are either killed or stop moving if they don't have a purpose. Feign Types are strange. No one knows how much time they have left.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Besides, whatever their humanoid form is, weapons can have different traits as they live. Some may take on markings resembling their wielder or develop traits after enough progression. A high-ranking weapon in an order of knights may have symbols relating to their organization, or their metal might change color to match.
