Summoner

I summon in attack mode...

I'll like to thank Petrizani Martina for the cover art. She has a world anvil account if you want to view more of her work.
As the name implies, Summoners summon Summons, people from another world. Summoners do this to form contracts with whatever they invoke. The details of these contracts vary, but the result is a Summoner gaining an ally and exploring an alternate world for the summon.   There are a couple of crucial things for a Summoner to remember. One, a summon can not stay out permanently. They run off of a Summoner's mana supply like a battery. If they do anything that requires magical power, they will passively take from their Summoner's mana supply. If they're out of mana, they summon disappears. Although, once a summoner gets strong enough, the creature can stay out without passively draining them.   On the topic of mana, when a summon takes a deadly wound, they can use their Summoner's mana to stay out longer to protect them. Ordinarily, a Summon would return to the summoning world to heal themselves. Because of this, some summoners get the idea that a Summon is invincible. However, this is far from the truth. They're sentient living creatures who feel pain and can die. To die, they need to pass away in the summoning world. Although if a Summon dies in the material world, they would need to regenerate their bodies, which takes a few days.   Understanding that a Summon is alive comes realizing what it means to be a summoner. Summon and Summoner form a between them. Whatever type of relationship or dynamic they have, the two must try to know one another better. How much you know about your Summons and view them, and vice versa, will determine your summoning career. So happy summoning summoner.

Career

Qualifications

For one, a Summoner needs to be knowledgeable in summoning magic to qualify as one. Then, they need to have a Summon to officially be recognized as Summoner.

Career Progression

Like all classes, Summoners can rank up into advanced versions of themselves. However, summoners have three pathways they can go down.   The first pathway is Keidirn. Keidirn is a summoner who decided to form a pact with a powerful entity. This pathway gives exclusive summons relating to them and using power from your new boss. The master class version is Redistoc. Redistoc has now gained the respect of their patron without suffering ill side effects.   The second pathway is Glyph Crafter. These are summoners who learned more about summoning circles and can now defend themselves without their summons. Finally, the master class version is Glyph Magi. Glyph Magi is a direct upgrade to the class while also giving them their summoning circle.   The third pathway is Incarnate. These summoners have formed a deep connection with their summons, allowing them to share power to create exciting effects—the master class version of this, Conduit. Conduit erases the title of a summoner, and a summon as they now fight as a singular force in battle.

Payment & Reimbursement

Like most adventurers, Summoners get paid by completing quests. Typically in XP, GP, and items.

Other Benefits

The main benefit of being a summoner is the ability to bring out your allies whenever you want. However, the benefits extend further out depending on your bond. A summon may teach you a few things, bring you items, or offer you a trip to their world. These also depend on the person in question.

Perception

Purpose

The purpose of a summoner largely depends on what they summoned. Since no two summons is the same and has vastly different abilities, there are many roles a summoner could fit. However, a large number of summoners end up being magical DPS.

Social Status

Summoners are unique in the aspect of calling another being to help them. As a result, people are often curious about their summons and abilities. Some even want to emulate the fact by either trying to learn it themselves or taming a creature.   On the flip side, people might ignore a summoner if their summon is not particularly interesting or powerful to them. On the other hand, if a summoner does have a powerful one, people might end up valuing the summon more than the summoner. Then there's the case of everyone being wary of some summoners since some are bad at controlling their summons.

Operations

Tools

Summoners aren't entirely defenseless without their summon. They begin with paper tags and light armor. These paper tags carry magic and can help out a summoner in a pinch. Some summoners also have on them some writing utensils and paper. Some use these items to perform a "proper summoning"; however, it is unneeded if you have already formed a pact.

Dangers & Hazards

Ironically, the most significant hazard to being a summoner is themselves. If a summoner angers a summon, there's a chance they will ignore them, attack them, or break the contract in some circumstances.

CREATION OF THE CLASS

The concept of summoning things has been around for a while now. Me personally, it is my favorite type of fantasy power. I always thought the idea of calling someone from another world was fucking amazing. As such, I browsed over the entire internet to see if I could find any trends when it came to the topic. After finishing my research and adding my things into the mix, the summoner class was born. And I gotta say, I'm happy with the results I got.

Demand
In the material world, they are not in high demand. While in the summoning world, summons wants to meet and form pacts with summoners.
