Halfos
Children of angels
Halfos is an umbrella term for individuals with an angel and a mortal for their parent. An interesting thing to note, not all angels are just humans with wings and a halo. For a bit of background, angels can look like just about anything. Because of this, one halfos can end up looking wildly different from another one. This statement applies to their mortal heritage as well. For some reason, there is a misconception that angels like humans. But there are cases of halfos with the parent of an orc, elf, and sometimes even a goblin.
Despite the naming convention, it is rare to see a halfos perfectly half-mortal and half-angel. Instead, a halfos's appearance leans angelic side or humanity. For example, a halfos might end up looking completely mortal, except for different coloration in eyes or hair. But if they lean more towards angels, they can end up having wings, a tail, or just looking more monstrous in general. The appearance also dictates how much access they have to their angelic side. For example, some might be stronger than the average person or be proficient in holy magic.
Ignoring the possibility of the family being apart and the child raised by one parent, halfos continue to emerge. Some become heroes despite the circumstances, while others couldn't care less and do whatever they want.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Halfos are reminiscent of other humanoid creatures. Their anatomy varies, but typically they're like other humanoids. However, some may develop wings, tails, or a halo. Mainly due to the fact their angelic genetics.
Biological Traits
The biological traits a halfos has are largely dependant on their parents. However, since angels and mortals come in many different shapes and sizes, it can affect how the halfos turn out. In some cases, the child is a superior version of the parent species, or they look monstrous. It is all part of the dice roll at times.
Genetics and Reproduction
Halfos, like most humanoids, sexually reproduce. Unsurprisingly, you don't need two halfos to make another halfos. Since halfos doesn't exactly mean half angel.
Growth Rate & Stages
The rate a halfos grows depends on their parentage since some races mature faster than others. As they grow older, their angelic side can become more apparent. For example, their eye color could change to a bright yellow, or they notice they can detect lies from others. In more extreme cases, they sprout wings, or their body undergoes a complete transformation.
Instead of going through strange angel puberty, some halfos are already born with their traits. They develop the same way as the other cases. However, they usually have a better time adjusting because they have had their appendages and abilities all their life.
Ecology and Habitats
Halfos typically stay with their mortal parents. However, halfos can adjust quickly to their environment depending on their species. If they live with their angelic parent, they might have difficulty adjusting to the environment.
Dietary Needs and Habits
A halfos eats food like every other humanoid creature. However, some might be capable of eating souls or devouring other people's virtues. However, most halfos rarely develop the ability to do so.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
For the most part, a halfos looks like their mortal parent species with minimum difference. Most are born with striking good looks that other mortals would find attractive. In contrast, some look monstrous and radically different from their mortal parent.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Halfos can be found all over the mortal plane. They don't have a set location where they all stay. However, there are rumors of a halfos city somewhere. In rare cases, you could find halfos living in the celestial plane. Finding halfos who made their home there is rare for several reasons.
In most cases, their angelic parent leaves them in the mortal realm because they can't survive in heavenly planes. In the other instances of those who want to visit, they don't have a way to travel there. So it is very significant to find a halfos living in the heavenly planes.
Average Intelligence
Halfos have around average intelligence. Some grow up scholars, wanting to know everything about their angelic heritage, while others are uneducated in the matter. However, their intelligence also depends on which parent raises them.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Like most creatures, halfos have the basic five senses. However, depending on parentage, they could have one or all of their senses increase drastically. Additionally, they might develop a sixth sense. For example, the ability to see souls or the ability to sense the virtues.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Since IDQ is a game world, there are no genuine naming traditions with halfos. But for those hardcore roleplayers, there are some ways halfos are named. Suppose their mortal parent raised them; halfos have a name very reminiscent of their culture with few changes. If angel parent raises them, they most likely get a name relating to something holy or pure.
In some cases, people go with biblical names or, for irony, name themselves after demons. In the same vein, some name themselves after angels.
Common Taboos
In the past, it was taboo for a halfos even to exist. However, after a long time, this is no longer an issue. Unfortunately, another significant rule is that some angel parents don't want them to interact with demons. Some just want their children to be safe while others just hate demons.
History
The first halfos appeared around the same time angels rebelled against heaven. The term halfos is a derogatory term created by angels. At first, halfos were hunted and murdered by angels. In the past, angels deemed halfos as mistakes and the living embodiments of sin. At the same time, it was outlawed for angels to have intercourse with humans. So most of the early halfos died. Those who survived either went into hiding or fought back. The resulting conflict ended with both halfos and angels dying and, ironically, more angels rebelling.
Nowadays, the conflict between the two species has calmed down. While there are still angels that think less of halfos, they can freely roam the world without being hunted for existing.
Common Myths and Legends
The birth of the first halfos is an enigma to even the oldest angels. One story goes after the first angel rebelled; he wanted to do everything considered forbidden, and having sex with a mortal was taboo. In another version of the story, a separate angel was a mortal's guardian angel. In this, they developed romantic feelings for their mortal, but they couldn't act on them. When the first angel rebelled, that gave the guardian angel the courage to confess their feelings to their mortal, leading to the first halfos.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Some species view them as more advanced versions of other species. In contrast, others think that they are angelic abominations. Despite their peace, angels still have a rocky relationship with halfos. Mainly due to the war, some angels think halfos are inferior to them. It doesn't help that some halfos resent their angel parent for not being there to raise them.
Lifespan
The average lifespan of a halfos depends on their mortal parent. However, their angelic side extends their lifespan by a considerable amount.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Another case by case situation. Some halfos are born looking exactly like a regular mortal, while others could be born with markings on their face or body that represents their angel side. Some halfos can end up looking like albino versions of their mortal species. However, some might have heterochromatic eyes.
