Detective

Inquistive individuals always investigating

Detectives are a stealth class that uses their stealth to find clues and solve mysteries. While that seems a little odd, they bring a lot of utility to the table. In combat, they often try analyzing their enemies or finding things in the environment that can help them or their party. Maybe they spot a tree in the forest that the Detective can use against an enemy or see that the enemy takes more damage using piercing-based weapons.   The weapons a Detective uses are rather strange, more or less a running theme of the class. While detectives can do damage, they excel when not a direct DPS. Like most stealth classes, their best weapon is the art of deception. You can often see them wielding combat umbrellas or sword canes. There are also cases of a detective using various traps, knives, daggers, or putting a silencer on a gun and shooting their problems away. It is not unheard of for a detective to have an entire arsenal of gadgets and tricks in their back pocket.   Detectives are team players. Compared to the other stealth classes, they don't have many escape options or the strength to act on their learned advantages. So the first option is to build up an arsenal to combat whatever unfavorable situation they find themselves in or to have their party defend them while performing an investigation. The playstyle depends on the detective.

Career

Qualifications

What it takes to be a detective is a loaded question. While you can get the equipment, armor, and weapons, don't make a detective. A keen and inquisitive mind is what makes a detective a detective. Which means someone just starting won't have any of the skills that a season verteran has.

Career Progression

Like all classes, Detectives can rank up into advanced versions of themselves. However, detectives have two pathways they can go down that split again.
  1. The first path is that of a Magic Sleuth. Magic Sleuths start investigating many magical phenomena. Since they're partaking in such a job, they learn some magic themselves and acquire a familiar to help them.
    • The following two classes are paths that Magic Sleuth can walk down. First, there's Portal Hunters. These Magic Sleuths discovered there were a lot of dimensional disturbances, and they sought to correct them. They learned how to use spatial magic, either close portals or send invaders back from where they came. Next is the Cryptid Stalker. Instead of learning about dimensions, Cryptid Stalkers decide to research monsters in general. This research gives them a vast knowledge of almost all supernatural things, and they get bonuses when dealing with them.
  2. The second path is Investigator. Investigators do more than look for clues and solve crimes; they're more combat-ready than regular detectives. They often get skills to having massive arsenals hidden away or surprising their enemies.
    • The following two classes are paths that Investigator can walk down. First, there are Ace Detectives. Ace Detectives fight by prosecuting their foes and sending them to court. Then, they attack by collecting evidence and building a strong enough case. Next, from whacky to serious, we have Private Eye. These detectives have become experts in integration and have the strange ability to learn more about their target by interacting with and fighting them, which leads to them being able to predict their moves easily.

Payment & Reimbursement

Like most adventurers, they get paid by completing their quest. Typically in XP, GP, and items. Although, there is the possibility of follower adventurers and NPCs paying them for their services.

Other Benefits

Because of their abilities, they can pretty much see what others miss. Which can make them invaluable in any situation they come across. Finding weak points, finding uses in objects that are thought useless. The benefits that a detective gets truly depend on what they are doing and how they want to play.

Perception

Purpose

As previously stated, detectives find clues and solve mysteries. This means they can discover uses for items people might not think of, find weaknesses in enemies, find hidden things, or learn things that other people wouldn't at first glance.

Social Status

Detectives are welcome in any group, from the many tales that people here about their abilities, a lot of people end up wanting to make friends with detectives. There is some irony in how well they are respected; most people choose not to be one and prefer to pick a damaging class.

Demographics

It is hard to gauge how many people are detectives. Besides the fact that it's a bit of an unconventional class, people who are detectives don't often reveal themselves to others. Sometimes it is out of fear that people might force them to help or want to be left alone and not pestered. In these situations, they pretend to either another stealth class or something similar to their current setup is.

Operations

Tools

The equipment a detective uses depends on how someone uses a detective and the type of detective. However, there is a big theme of using items/gear that people wouldn't expect. For example, an umbrella that functions as a shield has a hidden gun or blade.

Workplace

One person can argue that a detective's workplace can be their guild house; however that is true for about any player. Traditionally speaking, they go to work in a space where they can organize their gear and analyze clues. But a workplace isn't needed, but it can surely help if you're willing to commit.

Dangers & Hazards

The hazards a detective faces entirely depend on the detective. Maybe they want to do some simple cases and investigate someone's missing pet. Or, they could lead the investigation on the mysterious boss that suddenly spawned, and no one has information on it. Detectives can either constantly in danger or just living a relaxing life.

CREATION OF CLASS

In future installments, you'll notice that all the stealth classes follow a theme, uniquely using stealth. There were few stealth classes at the time, and I wanted to change that. I wonder what possible class I could make when I made the first three classes, using stealth to steal, reconnaissance, and killing. I pondered this question for a while before I thought of detectives. A utility stealth class's entire identity wasn't sneaking around. After some fine-tuning and having my admins help me a little with it, the detective class became a reality and one of my favorite classes.

The demand for detectives are high.
Legality
Being a detective is entirely legal! They might only have an issue if someone catches them trespassing or stealing. But that only applies if a detective wants to do that.
