SE04 : EP29 --Sins of the Forefathers Pt. 1

The party assembles in the The Oculus chamber in Meridian's Gate. A amicable half-elf talks with enthusiasm to Councilman Stratos. Then turning to the entering group he introduces himself as @Gavin and meets Zevious seemingly old friends with him. He greats Cornellius and praises his magics. Honored to meet a lord he claps both hands as he shakes Pryce's hand. Smiling broadly he turns on Cassandra greeting her as the party's leader. They test eachother's strength in jest as they shake. Retreving his hand, Gavin shakes it pointing out the obvious strength of the Meridian. Stratos talks to them about the particulars of the mission. They are to escort four carts full of supplies along a road to beleaguered settlement. There is a veil of secrecy around the mission that means to be maintained. They will also  need to ne quarantined once they arrive back. Everyone nods in agreement. Hone strides up and exchanges Signal Rings with Cass.   Once through the portal their senses are assaulted by the wrenching stench of decay. In a rocky valley flanked by towering mushrooms a thin miasma hangs in the air. To the side of the road the decaying hulk of a fungus choked purple wurm. They recover from the sensory abuse and make preparations to protect themselves from the rotting smell. Before they even get started on the path they see pulses in the lawn of fugus before them.    Small tendrils of long stalks emerge from the ground. The group rushes in and starts fighting them before they attempt and thing against the horses. After battling a few two hulking Miconids emerge from the ground. With fire and effort they tackle the army of fungal enemies.    Then a pair of shambling mounds crawl out the purple wurm's husk. As they brawl with he brutes, Pryce gets engulfed. They keep on battling, they kill the beasts releasing their companion. Picking up from the fight they find the path is far more clear.   They start out and find the landscape dull and choked in decay, fungus, and lichen. After two hours of travel they happen upon an mushroom choked bridge. Zevious taps into divine insight and sees Horizians and other crossing this span. Some survive fine but many are attacked by terrible flying creatures living with in the chasm. Something about the fungus on the bridge conected to the attacks. They notice the lights they have on them repel the fauna. Gavin casts Daylight above the bridge and the mushroom shrivel and crawl back towards any shadow. With the undergrow gone, they advance the horses towards the other side.    Approaching the other side they see far off in the distance a vast tall cathedral or keep made of masses of fungal matter. As they taken the sight the sounds of battle rise up, much, much closer.
