While wandering the market, Jinx notices that Venn Vinder the local store owner, is peering into the crowd with a concerned look on his face. The Gnome asks Venn what ails him. “Can your cards find out where my darned daughter is?” Venn asks. Explaining that he heard that his daughter has been seeing Ben Harker lately, a boy whom he cannot stand. Harker is a weasel, and as a miller he is not worthy of his daughters affections. Jinx supposes that these are just the words of an overbearing father, still, the Gnome offers to help if Venn can make it worth the time. Jinx is looking for rare harrow cards and the store owner assures him that through his contacts with merchants he can find some. Jinx agrees to help, explaining that his daughter was last seen with Ben at the smithy. The store owner storms off, leaving his stall in the hands of a confused fisherman nearby.
