Voltaire is a habitable planet with an atmosphere that is breathable for most species, including humans. The planet has no axial tilt, consiquently it has no seasons either. A popular nickname for the planet is "The Land of Eternal Spring". The ownership of the planet is contested as different nations have each founded their own settlements on it. It is the only naturally habitable planet in the
Aquitani System, which serves as a valuable "crossroads" for interstellar travel.
Poitiers
The starport at Poitiers is one of the largest cities on the planet. Descartes Starport has 100 landing pads total, 20 of which can handle the largest ships that are designed to enter the atmosphere of a planet. The pads are all connected to the "Ship Highway" a massive road which leads to several privately owned hangars for the safe storage of ships, if you can pay the fee. Some ships have their own ground wheels for taxiing from a hanger to a pad, but for those that don't Descartes is equipped with the best towing vehicles money can buy. As with many starports throughout the galaxy, landing at the starport is not free and any ships landing are expected to be able to pay the fee. Any ship owner who refuses to, or is unable to, pay will be arrested. The starport will tow the ship to their impound lot. At their leasure they will search the ship for any valuable items to make up for the fee, if there is insufficent cargo the ship itself will be taken into possession of the local government. Once the starport has received what it feels is its fair payment the owner of the ship is released from detainment and has whatever remains returned to them.
Poitiers is, at this time, ruled by Grand Chief Antoine Bonhomme. Chief Bonhomme is an autocratic ruler who cares primarily for his own profits. Ten years ago he founded the starport and the city grew around it. Throughout the city there are few laws and the ones that exist are only there to keep himself in power. The streets of some areas of the city are contested by violent gangs, who are ignored by law enforcement as long as they don't cause any direct issues for the Grand Chief.
