Vile Enchantment

Vile Enchantment is the art of imbuing items with magical powers and corruption linked to Safia, the False Halcyon. Vile enchantments slowly overtake those who use them, drawing them under Safia's power.   Makar Mesaba observed a Vile Enchantment at work in Asalay during their adventures there. Lord Evett, a minor Azalen lord and landlord, had been offered a powerfully enchanted sword by a monster of Safia's in exchange for his services corrupting a piece of the Azalen Underworld. This sword ensnared Evett with promises of power and he became obsessed with it, to the point of almost killing his own son Akari. The sword grew Evett's power by feeding on Akari's blood. By the time Makar intervened, the sword had entirely corrupted Lord Evett's arm and the limb had to be amputated to remove him from Safia's power.   The Vile Enchantment of the sword in Asalay seemed to be a vehicle for corrupting the dungeon itself, which in turn led to Godblight appearing.   Too few instances of Vile Enchantment have been found for any broad conclusions to be drawn. It is unknown whether Vile Enchantments can be used to create Unwilling or Willing, for example. While this may be a rarer vehicle of corruption at the moment, it would be unwise to discount this tool of corruption entirely. It is also unknown whether all Vile Enchantments are as subtle as the Asalay example or if that was a special case.
