Godblight

Godblight is an instrument of corruption used by Safia, the False Halcyon to create thralls and monsters from innocent people.   Godblight appears as shiny multicolored spores that fill the air in whimsical looking clouds. These clouds are surrounded by a sweet smell and seem to move through the air as if they were alive and willful - those who observe the clouds notice that they move playfully towards sentient life.   When Godblight spores reach the body of a sentient creature, they quickly latch on and begin their attack. This attack is immediate but deceptive: the spores essentially release painkillers into the body as they launch their assault, creating a feeling of tranquility and even pleasure as the Godblight takes hold.   Once the Godblight has established itself as part of the target body it drops the charade. The subject becomes haunted by the Godblight, which spends the next few days crushing resistance and magically corrupting the host's very soul. This corruption doesn't change the person's personality or nature but does put them under Safia, the False Halcyon's power. The Empress' power.   Once under the power of the Empress, the host becomes tormented by visions of the cruelty and depravity that the Empress expects of them if they are to become her Willing servant. These are often shocking and excessive visions that are paired with a sense of the Empress' disdain and hate for the subject. Eventually, the Godblight will carry a demand from the Empress to serve her without compromise and with no promise that this service would not be paired with torment. All those who refuse become the Unwilling, Safia's monstrous footsoldiers. Those who look upon the horror and see opportunity become her Willing servants, her commanders and specialty staff.   Godblight is one of Safia's tools of corruption but it is not her only one.
