Second Selkie Empire

The Second Selkie Empire of All Seas was a massive empire built by selkie conqueror Milen Whakiki, that lasted 31 years and ended with his death during the failed invasion of Suwirsha. The story of the empire is basically synonymous with the story of its founder: Milen conquered realm after realm and struggled with persistent rebellions. From a territorial perspective, this empire was larger but even less permanent than the one founded by Kova the Conqueror some six hundred years prior. But the selkies of 900 ME were a very different group than those of 300 ME. While there was a legitimate attempt to adopt feudalistic practices and territorial control in the 300s ME by Kova's clan, the selkies of Milen's era had perfected a lifestyle of sea nomadism. Many of these clans honed in on mercantile contracts, royal treasuries, control over seaports, and small scraps of defensible seaside territory: this was less of a mass territorial occupation that a mass pillaging. This mass of loot and forced contracts would propel these selkie clans into global prominence long after Milen's formal political entity collapsed.

The Second selkie empire remains legendary in selkie histories, long after the immediate political impact has faded. When selkies think fondly on selkie imperialism, this empire tends to be the symbol of selkie greatness they idolize. This is a history stub.
