Alnira Ziriba
Alnira was Esam the Great's second child, who suffered immensely at the hands of her parents. Alnira did her best despite her upbringing. Alnira caused great scandal at court marrying a man for love far below her station. A quiet and proud woman convinced of her own superior intelligence, Alnira was skilled with numbers and ideas even if her social isolation made her drawn to political and economic fantasies. Alnira was neurotic, obsessive, and prone to fits, and she is remembered poorly in court. Still, she was kind to her daughters and she protected her younger brother from the worst of her parents' wrath.
Alnira Ziriba is the mother of the current Empress of the Empire of Calazen, Kitiva V. Open slander of Alnira at court is politically foolish for this reason, but behind closed doors both servants and nobles are unkind to the old princess. Her snooty disposition, marriage to a merchant-diplomat who was far shorter than her, and rage-filled tantrums alienated a lot of people and gave her enemies ample ammunition.
Alnira was quite interested in chemistry, trade, and Alchemy, and she sponsored some innovative alchemists, gunsmiths, and tinkerers. Sadly, her research was eventually frozen and discontinued despite promising early results. Still, the elite tinkerers at Odija remember her fondly. Alnira's greatest success at court was the political positioning of her daughter, which was incredibly successful.
