K'hili

The K'hili language differs from many others in crucial ways which distinguish the culture as well the language. For instance, gender is not in any way distinguished. There are also thirteen pronouns, which specify between outsiders, elders, younger generations, and whether or not they come from the same island as the speaker.

Writing System

The letter c is never used, however "nr", "ns", "mn", and "ts" are common, as well as the letters w, g, h, and f.

Geographical Distribution

The language is mostly spoken in the Southern Archipelago. It is also spoken in the southernmost part of the Aelgari Empire, but less commonly.

Phonology

Emphasis is usually placed on the first or second vowel. In the written language, there is a marker for the emphasis of a word, but K'hili is rarely written. It is an almost exclusively spoken language.

Morphology

The words in this language can very easily be converted from one type to another. Here are some simple rules that usually hold true.
  • NOUN: pu+non-noun
  • ADJECTIVE: hi+non-adjective
  • VERB: ni+non-verb
  • PLURAL: word+am
  • POSSESSIVE: word+im
If there are two of the same vowels next to each other when you add a prefix or suffix, add an apostrophe between the two.   To conjugate, you generally chop off the last syllable and add the appropriate suffix for what pronoun the person(s) doing the action is (aha, aga, ani, aki, awa, ava, awi, adi, aka, alka, amo, atsa) plus -im if there is more than one person and -u if you are addressing the person doing the action. Then add the appropriate prefix (du or sia) if the action is not happening right now.
