šhǎt͡shǀo

Split, unhingable jaw. Long, thin fangs + venom. Split, long, flat tongue.    Tend to be quite thin framed, with long tails at similar width to the waist, and extreme flexibility. They are not particularly built for slithering-- have a somewhat humanoid pelvis and small clavicles, along with limbs at various stages of development. Due to that, and the commonality of lacking fully developed limbs, this species relies on prosthetics. That both means that they are extremely advanced in this area, and that certain health issues that are inherent with prosthetics are widespread (skin irritation/infection, etc). They do not have rib cages that close in the front (just like regular snakes), so they are particularly vulnerable to strikes to the "sternum" (that they don't have). Fighters must always wear flexable armor that covers their fronts well (or they risk being put out of commission by a well-placed punch).   They do have hair, but almost exclusively on their heads.   *no breasts-- not mamalian at all; lay eggs

They are hypercarnivorous, fish and insects making up the bulk of their diet (in the northeast archipelago, at least-- diet varies depending on climate).

šhǎt͡shǀo have in-group and out-group names. In-group names consist of nouns, the first name being the clan name, and the second name being the personal name. Most other species cannot pronounce words in their language, so they choose words they like the sound, feel, or meaning of in the local languages.
