Thalica Forest

Thalica forest fills the northern half of Corthalia. It is also the home of its capitol city, Thalica. At the center of the city is a grove of trees which Thalim call holy. It is the birthplace of the Endrugalim and it is the reason Corthalia was founded.

Geography

On the southern side of two mountains, Thalica Forest acompanies a river down through the foothills. Here stand many of Corthalia's most ancient towns. The oldest is the capitol, Thalica City.

Fauna & Flora

Hughe trees march up the gap between two huge mountains untill the ground becoes too rocky and unstable for them. Many herbs and shrubs coat the forest floor. Vines curl around the branches of the trees. Mushrooms dot the roots of living trees and moss coats the river bank.Sasquatches bears and griffons feast on the fish that swarm the river. Pangalins and pillbugs dig through the soft pine straw of the forest floor. Songbirds hawks and ravens fly in the treetops well above the foxes and minxes that roam the floor. Turtles dive and lope along the river while boars rummage through the roots of trees for tubers. Plenty of berries and grasses present themselves for the hungry traveler an the resourceful locals, though there are a few poisonous varieties to be aware of. A population of pseudodragons accompanies the adventurous locals.

Natural Resources

Gems and mineral-rich stones tumble down the waterfall north of the forest, catching on the windy river banks and debris. Soft but plentiful lumber falls from the trees. None are cut by Corthalian hands and those that dare cut down one of the gret trees face imprisonment. Clean water flows through the forest. Springs well up to join the flow downstream. Springs provide an excellent source of creative energy. The enormous and ancient trees have their own magic. Though less strong than a soul, the aura provides confort to those who stay in the tree's branches and rest under its shade. Sticky resin prevents fraying of bowstrings. Fallen logs present amber. A number of medicinal and toxic plants fill the clearings and river banks. Wild boars rabbits and fish provide food. Foxes and minks that pester the gardens and birds of Thalica proper are hunted and their fur sold. Boar hides make a tough and bumpy leather.
