Akashic Brotherhood
The Akashic Brotherhood is a secretive order of elven mystics who trace their lineage to the ancient Sa'har Order. Once the spiritual custodians of the Old Ways—an ancient philosophy that channeled the primal force of creation known as Akasha—the Brotherhood now stands as the last living tradition of that mysticism. Where the Sa’har became scholars, the Brotherhood remained practitioners. They walk the Akasha, not just study it.
Though few in number, the Brotherhood’s influence spans centuries, operating quietly within and beyond the bounds of Kyonin.
The Old Ways and the Akasha
Akasha, or the Old Way, is a form of living magic—believed to be the origin of all magical traditions on Golarion. It predates arcane theory, divine hierarchies, and even the mingling of planar bloodlines. Akasha is not just a power source, but the raw essence of life, will, and harmony—and all living beings resonate with it to some degree. Those who are born with the rare gift of sensing and channeling the Akasha are called Akashari. These individuals cannot be trained from nothing; the gift must awaken naturally. Most never realize what they are. The Brotherhood seeks those few who do.Structure
The Brotherhood is small, loosely organized, and highly disciplined. Rank is not gained through bureaucracy, but through recognition of mastery.
- Initiates are Akashari brought into the Brotherhood and trained in the Old Ways.
- Knights are elite practitioners who protect Kyonin, operate as special operatives, or serve as field instructors.
- Masters are senior Knights who have successfully trained Initiates and are recognized by their peers.
- The Temple Master is the spiritual and strategic head of the Brotherhood and represents the order to the crown.
The High Council
Historically, eight Akashic Masters formed the High Council. Today, only a few Masters remain, and their Council meets rarely—more often deferring to the Temple Master. The current Temple Master is Sarnaris, a powerful Akashic Knight elevated after the betrayal of Lasdolon. He serves as the official liaison to the Royal Court of Kyonin—and unofficially seeks the favor (and hand) of Queen Telandia.History
History and the Second Migration
Following Earthfall, the Sa'har Order fled to Sovyrian and was reshaped by time and politics. Isolated and diluted by academic influence, the Order lost its essence. The Akashic Sensitive among them—those who could truly feel the Akasha—broke away to preserve the old teachings. Thus the Brotherhood was born in secrecy, disguising their nature while serving as hidden advisors and enforcers for the Winter Council. After the elves returned to Golarion in the Second Migration, the Brotherhood split its efforts: some supported the creation of the Great Library in Minas Amer, while others sought to recover lost Sa'har temples and the mythical isle of Meropis. Over the centuries, they evolved from hidden monks into knights—guardians of tradition cloaked in shadows. The betrayal of Lasdolon, a secret Temple Master corrupted by Tharzduun, nearly destroyed the Brotherhood. His fall exposed the Winter Council's darkest dealings, leading to its official dissolution. The Brotherhood vanished soon after, reorganizing under Sarnaris in the shadows of the new political order.Present Status
Today, the Akashic Brotherhood exists in secret, its numbers few but formidable. They are myth to some, weapon to others. With the Old Ways threatened by modern ideologies and political divisions, the Brotherhood walks a narrow path—serving their people, preserving their truth, and ensuring the Akasha is never forgotten. What they choose to do with that power next… remains to be seen.Foreign Relations
The Akashic Brotherhood officially swears loyalty to the Kingdom of Kyonin, and by extension, its queen. However, their independence and history with the now-disbanded Winter Council cast long shadows. Though many nobles mistrust them, none deny their effectiveness.
Publicly, the Brotherhood is known as an elite arcane-martial unit—Kyonin’s equivalent of special forces. In practice, they operate in secrecy, often cloaked as wizards, clerics, or arcane agents. The common elf may have heard of them, but few have seen one—or would recognize one if they had.
