Kobolds
Like the dragonborn, kobolds are a draconic species that have served the true dragons since ancient times. They are diminutive and lithe, with long snouts, two horns and wiry tails, and a scaly skin that comes in a wide variety of colors and tones. They greatly resemble reptiles but are warm-blooded and bipedal.
What separates them from the dragonborn is their unknown origins. No draconic legend claims that true dragons can create kobolds, nor can kobolds interbreed with any other sentient species. Kobolds are born from eggs just like true dragons. There are some kobolds that are born with wings, hinting that there really is dragonblood running in their veins. However, they do not possess an elemental affinity or a magical breath like true dragons or dragonborn.
Some popular theories claim that kobolds came from the underground, since there are many of them living in Netherspan. They are however equally populous in the skylands of the Glimmering Archiourano, where they serve the Dragon Lords.
Their affliction towards dragons seems to derive from admiration and awe, rather than a magical influence to obey like the dragonborn. Unlike their fearsome masters, kobolds are cowardly and thrive in numbers, preferring to live in packs. Historically, they have proven to be clever in their will to survive, relying on traps and cunning to gain the upper hand over their enemies, and if those fail, they will grovel and beg for their lives.
In modern-day Chronan, kobolds have spread throughout the Eight States. Like dragonborn, they are counted as one of the Eight People of Order, although many consider them to be the least of them. Their submissive and sneaky nature has not been seen honorable among the civilized society, so city-dwelling kobolds have traditionally been assigned working class roles. There are a few individuals that have risen in rank to become high priests, but in history there has never been a kobold Metropolite.
