Dragonborn
Dragonborn are draconic humanoids created by the blood and will of true dragons out of individuals of other species. They are tall, strong and bipedal, with scales and horns matching the type of dragon whose blood is running in their veins. Some, but not all, have tails, and even fewer have wings. Like their draconic creators, each of the dragonborn have an elemental affinity that gives their scales magical protection and glands that allow them to breathe out elemental energy.
Unlike reptiles that they resemble, dragonborn have retained warm blood and humanoid reproductive organs, so they prefer to wear clothes like other humanoids. They can interbreed with other humanoids, resulting in dragonborn offspring. The way the dragonborn were originally created is a secret known only by the mightiest of true dragons, such as the Dragon Lords and the Greatwyrms.
Like true dragons, dragonborn can be divided into chromatic, metallic and gem variety, based on the color of their scales. They are innately bound to their creator with a link that spans generations, and usually obey them without question. Due to this, dragonborn have traditionally been proud of their heritage and refused to intermingle with dragonborn of other colors, lest their childrens "scales would be tainted". Those that were born with mixed coloring were usually killed outright.
In ancient times, great draconic cultures, such as Horaeus and Tephra, rose around Chronan, with dragonborn acting as loyal soldiers and clerics to their dragon masters. Their presence is still strong especially in the Glimmering Archiourano, and it seems that especially gem dragonborn are prevalent in the southern Shattered Continent, based on them leading the Rubine Reavers.
Only in the modern times as true dragons have gotten rarer have dragonborn started to spread around the Eight States and found their individual ways. Their natural strength and damaging breath is valued in the military, but their innate devotion also leads some to the path of priesthood.
