Gearwich

Gearwich is a small working class settlement on the northern Wycliffe region of Magnapolis, on the seaside. It used to be a village of fishers and farmers, but when the Loosescrews and the Whirlycogs built the Gadgetory in their ancestral lands some hours away, it was quickly populated and expanded by factory workers.   There's the ancient Wycliffe Forest bordering the village from the west. Folklore tells of ghosts such as the Weeping Maiden haunting the woods. The Weeping Maiden is said to be the spirit of the treacherous eladrin Halise Danaï, who betrayed her people during the War Between Order and Chaos for a false love.   The only inn in Gearwich is the Steam Whistle Tavern, ran by a scarred bronze dragonborn Iphigen Galiley, who was injured in a great explosion in the Gadgetory a decade ago. The tavern is a popular gathering place for the factory workers after a hard shift.   Transportation to and from the Gadgetory is handled by steam wagons, governed by an official working for the owners of the Gadgetory, a gnome with a sqeaky voice called Gustaford Tollward. He also keeps an eye over the workers living in the village.   Lately there has been a flood of layouts from the Gadgetory as the production of automatons has increased exponentially, replacing the workforce with sentient machines. The remaining workers have started unionizing, lead by the headstrong dwarf Bunsen.
