Ethnic Abilities - Waldonian
When designing a character, a player chooses positive and negative ethnic abilities of equal value. Custom suggestions are possible upon approval by the GM. Mixed ethnicity abilities can be custom designed as well.
Since all characters are human, you are always Adaptable: Humans begin play with any Novice Edge of their choosing. They must meer its Requirements as usual.
Typical Waldonian characteristics are:
Spirited (2): Waldonians are a proud and persistent folk. They start with a d6 Spirit instead of a d4. This increases maximum Spirit to d12+1.
Tough (1): Waldonians are a tough breed. Toughness is increased by +1.
Researchers (1): As inhabitants of a republic the Waldonians have been able to welcome the best scientists to their schools and universities. One specialization of the Science trait starts at d4.
Book Worm (1): Waldonians read almost as much as they sleep, gathering valuable knowledge in the process. Your Research trait starts at a d4.
Leaf Cover (-1): Many Waldonians are used to being protected from the sun by extensive cover from trees towering over them. You suffer a -4 bonus to resist the negative effects of heat. Damage from heat sources add an extra 4 damage.
Ranged Warriors (-1): With firearms being the new standard in combat, Waldonians no longer learn to dodge a fist, sword or club. You suffer a -1 to your Parry.
Gunpowder Nation (-1): Most Waldonians are not used to fighting with their fists or with melee weapons no more. All fighting rolls suffer a -1 penalty.
Small (-1): Waldonians were never the largest humans on the old continent. You reduce your size and toughness by 1.
